By David Downey | [email protected] | The Press-EnterprisePUBLISHED: February 5, 2019 at 7:30 am | UPDATED: February 5, 2019 at 11:28 am Riverside National Cemetery will have space to bury veterans for at least 50 more years — and a popular golf course will stay open for the “foreseeable future” — following the federal government’s purchase of 315 acres. The recent $12.5 million buy also makes the sprawling national cemetery near the 215 Freeway and Van Buren Boulevard the nation’s largest in terms of land holdings, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs stated in a Monday, Feb. 4, news release. On Wednesday, Jan. 30, the department’s National Cemetery Administration bought the site — which includes the General Old Golf Course — from the March Joint Powers Authority. The deal had been in the works for more than a year. “It’s good for everybody,” said Jamil Dada, chairman of the March Joint Powers … [Read more...] about General Old Golf Course bought by Riverside National Cemetery – but won’t close for years

Associated Press Published 6:47 AM EST Dec 31, 2018 Burlington, N.C. – A lion killed a young worker at a wildlife conservatory Sunday after it got loose from a locked space, the center said. Alexandra Black, 22, of New Palestine, Indiana, was killed Sunday after being attacked by the lion in an enclosure that was being cleaned at the Conservators Center, news outlets reported, citing a statement from the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office. The lion was shot and killed after attempts to tranquilize the animal failed, deputies said. A “husbandry team” led by a professionally trained animal keeper was carrying out the routine cleaning when the lion somehow got loose, the center said in a statement. It wasn’t clear how the lion escaped the area that was supposed to be locked, said the center, which is closed until further notice. “This is the worst day of my life. We’ve lost a person. We’ve lost an animal. We have lost the faith in … [Read more...] about Lion kills worker after escaping locked area at NC zoo
11 minutes ago Young Justice: Outsiders is almost here, and while we already knew that some additional young heroes would be added to the team, now we know how they'll be different from the first young group of superheroes that populated the show. And, apparently, they'll be heavily influenced by the world that was set up in the first two seasons of Young Justice. Here's what co-showrunner Brandon Vietti had to say: What's great about those characters is they're young characters who are now growing up in a world that is formed from our first two seasons. We really had a heck of an arc through our first two seasons. We explored how society viewed heroes, and how aliens came to Earth to harvest the metagene that powers many of the superheroes and villains. When we came back to start our third season, we were looking at this world we've created and watched grow through the first two seasons and we're like, 'Wow, this is a really scary Earth. What must it be like to grow up on this … [Read more...] about How Young Justice: Outsiders’ New Heroes Will Be Different From The Originals
x With the Kate Kane version of Batwoman having been around for more than a decade now, one could certainly say she’s due for some mainstream exposure outside of comic books. In fact, she made her way over to animation in 2016’s Batman: Bad Blood and, more recently, made her live action debut during the Arrowverse’s “Elseworlds” crossover. Well, get ready for her popularity to surge event more in 2019 and beyond because not only is she poised to headline her own TV series on The CW, but Gotham’s scarlet-haired protector will also head back to the world of animation via the highly anticipated Young Justice: Outsiders. Of course, we don’t expect for Kate to steal thunder from younger heroes because it is their series, though it’s probably fair to say she’ll get ample screen time similar to her older peers. Our biggest hint at this comes in the form of a new image (seen below) showing what appears to be a hologram with Batwoman … [Read more...] about New Young Justice: Outsiders Image Reveals Batwoman
