Neil Young Adds Voice To David Crosby Tributes
Neil Young, whose friendship with David Crosby was as turbulent as their harmonies were blissful, paid an emotional tribute to the late singer today, calling his former bandmate “a very supportive friend in my early life.” On his Neil Young Archives website , beneath a large photograph of Crosby, Young wrote: David is gone, but his music lives on. The soul of CSNY, David’s voice and energy were at the heart of our band. His great songs stood for what we believed in and it was always fun and exciting when we got to play together. ‘Almost Cut My Hair’ ‘Dejavu’, and so many other great songs he wrote were wonderful to jam on and Stills and I had a blast as he kept us going on and on. His singing with Graham was so memorable, their duo spot a highlight of so many of our shows. We had so many great times, especially in the early years. Crosby was a very supportive friend in my early life, as we bit off big pieces of our experience together. David was the catalyst of many … [Read more...] about Neil Young Adds Voice To David Crosby Tributes

Ramsey first gained a fervent fan club for playing the strong young ruler Lyanna Mormont in HBO ’s Game of Thrones between 2016 and 2019. Now, she’s set to star in HBO’s heavily promoted series The Last of Us , a dystopian thriller based on a video game. The 19-year-old Ramsey is opening up during the promotional attention in advance of the series debut. “I guess my gender has always been very fluid,” she said in a recent interview with The New York Times . “Someone would call me ‘she’ or ‘her’ and I wouldn’t think about it. But I knew that if someone called me ‘he,’ it was a bit exciting,” she said. When filling out forms, Ramsey checks the “nonbinary” option rather then “he” or “she.” “Nonbinary” means not identifying exclusively as male or female, or not identifying with any gender, according to the National Center for Transgender Equality . “I’m very much just a … [Read more...] about ‘The Last Of Us’ Costar Bella Ramsey Talks About Her Gender Identity In Frank Interview

2023 Oscars: ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ Earns Nine Nominations
At the start of awards season, Edward Berger ’s All Quiet On The Western Front was a lock for International, but few could have foreseen how much further it would go. Alongside that nomination, the German film is now also in the running for Best Picture, having made the shortlist for Sound, Original Score, Adapted Screenplay, Makeup and Hairstyling, Production Design, Visual Effects and Cinematography. This grand haul follows its performance at the BAFTAs, where it gathered an astonishing 14 nominations in almost all major categories. As a result, the film joins Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2002) in second place to Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi (1981), which still holds the BAFTA record for nominations with 16. It’s a double-whammy that will surely prompt some second thoughts at Netflix: in a year that the streamer invested in some of cinema’s biggest names, one of its biggest critical hits is a foreign-language remake with no major stars, from a director best … [Read more...] about 2023 Oscars: ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ Earns Nine Nominations

‘The Last of Us’ Episode 3 Recap: Love In The Time Of Cordyceps
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains details of Season 1, Episode 3 of HBO ’ s The Last Of Us . WARNING: The episode and recap includes sensitive discussions of suicide. Calling The Last of Us Episode 3, titled “Long Long Time”, a spectacular piece of television is hardly an understatement. Funneled through the pen of series showrunner and co-writer Craig Mazin , this episode is an incredibly poignant and heartbreakingly tender reflection on vulnerability, love, and the meaning of life through the eyes of two lovers named Bill ( Nick Offerman ) and Frank ( Murray Bartlett ). Before we get into the recap, it’s important to explain some things. A notable element of this episode, likely to spawn heated discourse amongst game fans, is how heavily it deviates from the source material to successfully enrich and redeem an otherwise sparse and dark narrative during gameplay. For those who haven’t played the game, but are eager to join in on the … [Read more...] about ‘The Last of Us’ Episode 3 Recap: Love In The Time Of Cordyceps
‘Fairyland’ Sundance Film Festival Review: Emilia Jones & Scoot McNairy In Touching Memoir Set Against San Francisco’s AIDS Epidemic
Emilia Jones earned a lot of attention as the star of 2021’s big Sundance winner and eventual Best Picture Oscar winner CODA, and the praise should be continuing this year as she not only stars in Cat People but also Fairyland , which had its world premiere in Park City on Friday. Sofia Coppola serves as lead producer for this American Zoetrope production of Andrew Durham’s feature film writing and directing debut, and it is a memorable one that is unlikely to leave a dry eye in the house. It had me in quiet tears by the end of this film adaptation of Alysia Abbott’s moving 2013 memoir of growing up in San Francisco with her widowed father just as gay pride was taking hold and the AIDS epidemic was on the horizon. This is not a sweeping panorama of what happened there in the 1970s and ’80s, but rather a personal coming-of-age story of the unconventional relationship between a gay single father and the daughter he must bring up alone after the tragic death of his wife. … [Read more...] about ‘Fairyland’ Sundance Film Festival Review: Emilia Jones & Scoot McNairy In Touching Memoir Set Against San Francisco’s AIDS Epidemic
