‘Boogie’ Opens With $1.2M; ‘My Salinger Year’ Premieres; ‘Minari’ Makes Its Way To South Korea – Specialty Box Office

After winning a Golden Globe, numerous critics circle accolades as well as SAG Award, Independent Spirit Award and Critics Choice nominations, Minari has taken its success overseas as the A24 American family drama has opened at number one in South Korea. Minari has banked an estimated $2.2 million in South Korea, earning more than double of Raya and the Last Dragon in the marketplace. It is the biggest opening in the territory for an American film since Soul which earned $2.5M. The Lee Isaac Chung-directed film starring Steven Yeun is in good company as it has outgrossed the total cumulative gross in South Korea of previous Oscar contenders like The Favourite ($1.3M) and Spotlight ($2.1M). It is also on the way to surpass Green Book’ s total gross of $3M. Kingsman 2 Is Not for the Faint of Heart Warns Taron Egerton

Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2014. In a lot of ways it mirrored what happened with Deadpool this year, only that it wasn't quite as successful. But, it was a super violent, R-rated comic book movie that made a boatload of money for Fox. So Kingsman 2 is happening and it is coming out next year. Star Taron Egerton recently talked a bit about what we can expect and he seems to be saying all of the right things. The actor recently spoke with Collider about the upcoming sequel, officially titled Kingsman: The Golden Circle . Taron Egerton claims that director Matthew Vaughn and his co-writer Jane Goldman crafted an excellent script and are only doing the movie because they came up with a story well worth telling. Critics Choice Awards 2021: Chadwick Boseman Wins Best Actor

The Sunday stage is set for the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards which will be hosted by Taye Diggs and include virtual and in-person details. Deadline will be updating the winners list throughout the night and will be on the scene for the ceremony’s virtual backstage. The Critics Choice awards will see presenters announce winners live from the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica as well as other areas from all over the world. The ceremony will reveal the winners in 20 film categories and 19 television categories. Leading the pack for nominations are Netflix’s Mank and A24’s Minari, which earned 12 and 10 noms, respectively. On the TV side, Ozark and The Crown lead the nominations with six each. Malcolm & Marie and Euphoria star Zendaya will receive the evening’s SeeHer Award.
