If you’re working from home, you’re going to need tools to make your place feel more like an office. It’s easy to lose focus if you don’t create the right work space. For Shirley Lam, the founder and owner of the pet lifestyle site, Perro & Me , it’s all about building a little bit of structure. Lam, who runs the thriving online business out of her house in Vancouver, says it’s important to get in the mindset that you’re going to work. “Set your daily schedule in your calendar and stick to it as you would at the office,” she says. “And get dressed for work — do your hair, put on makeup and look office-appropriate, even if it’s just your home office.” Another tip: “Set up a dedicated spot as your work space so that you can take breaks and walk away from it,” Lam … [Read more...] about 13 Accessories to Help You Stay Focused and Productive If You’re Working From Home

With More People Livestreaming From Home, Here’s How to Make Your Video Better

The rise of broadband internet and lower-cost video equipment has caused a boom in livestreaming. It’s easier than ever to turn your living room, bedroom, basement, or closet into a production-quality internet TV station. Twitch, the most popular livestreaming platform, has over 92,000 live broadcasts and more than 2.4 million viewers online as I’m writing this (these numbers increase at night and on weekends). Streaming on Twitch, or its main competitors YouTube TV, Facebook Live, and Instagram is totally free. That’s not even taking into account Zoom meetings, FaceTime or Skype calls where you’re interacting with your colleagues and friends on camera. But as much as a livestream is based on the content you provide, you also want to make sure you’re putting your best … [Read more...] about With More People Livestreaming From Home, Here’s How to Make Your Video Better

The Best 4K Webcams In 2021

In an era when most work conferences are taking place over zoom, webcams have gone from a neat accessory to an absolute necessity. If you’re setting up a livestreaming area or home office , a 4K webcam can produce a level of video quality that’s significantly better than what you’re getting out of your computer’s built-in webcam. The difference between a 1080P (full HD) and 4K webcam is that these newer models can broadcast video at twice the resolution. Viewers will be able to see you in much more vivid detail, which will look a lot more professional. The sensors in 4K webcams are also designed to handle unfavorable situations (think dim rooms) and compensate for them. If you’re frustrated at looking grainy on video calls with your colleagues, a 4K camera is the … [Read more...] about The Best 4K Webcams In 2021

Chloe x Halle on What They’ve Learned from Beyoncé: ‘You Don’t Have To Dim Your Light’

· February 24, 2021 ·

For this year’s annual Women Shaping the Future issue, we asked 12 of today’s top musical acts to talk about the women who have inspired them most in their lives and careers. Here, Chloe x Halle talk about their mentor, Beyoncé — who runs their label, Parkwood Entertainment — and share what they’ve learned from her example. Beyoncé is the true definition of what it is to be yourself and work hard and give it your all. As young artists and as young black women who watch her, you automatically know your worth. You know to stand in your power, because you’re like, “Wow, look at this other black woman killing it. All she had to do was be herself, work hard, and push herself. That’s all she had to do. Let me try to do that.” She understands what it means to be an artist, so when it’s us creating, it’s purely our own ideas, our own lyrics and melodies. We have complete and total creative freedom. She lets us spread our wings, experiment, do what we want. Of course, we love and … [Read more...] about Chloe x Halle on What They’ve Learned from Beyoncé: ‘You Don’t Have To Dim Your Light’
