Award-winning writer, producer, comedian, and actor Quinta Brunson , creator of ABC and Warner Bros. Television’s TV series Abbott Elementary , will receive the ICG Publicists ( International Cinematographers Guild , IATSE Local 600) 2023 Television Showperson Award. James Bond star Eva Green has said she feared making A Patriot could have killed her career as she took the stand in a legal battle with White Lantern Films, producer of the doomed British movie. Green, whose credits include 2006’s Casino Royale and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City , is suing White Lantern and SMC Speciality Finance for $1 million, the fee she says she is owed due to the collapse of the project in 2019. Green was due to star in and executive produce the pic. Speaking at the High Court in London, Green said the script for A Patriot was one of the best she had read, and she “really fell in love” with the story, Reuters news agency reported. “It was very exciting, a role of a soldier, which I have never played before. It was about climate change. It was very dear to my heart,” she told the court, Reuters reported. The film, first announced in 2019, is based on Jeff Hobbs’ best-selling biography The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League . It follows Robert Peace, who made his way to Yale on scholarship after growing up in a crime-ridden section of Newark, New Jersey. He’d major during his time there in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, working in a lab researching cancer and infectious diseases, while at the same time making six figures from the sale of marijuana. EXCLUSIVE : Michael Jackson will be played by the late icon’s 26-year old nephew Jaafar Jackson in the Antoine Fuqua -directed film biopic for Lionsgate . Fuqua just posted a confirmation on Instagram. The singer and songwriter is the son of Jermaine Jackson , who is the brother of Michael and member of The Jackson 5. Jaafar has been singing and dancing since age 12, and has showcased himself singing tunes from Sam Cooke to Marvin Gaye, along with originals. As Deadline revealed last week, the Emancipation helmer signed on to next direct Michael , which has a script by John Logan . The film’s being produced by Graham King , who turned the Freddie Mercury Queen story into the blockbuster Bohemian Rhapsody . UPDATED with ITV Studios statement: The Writers Guild of America, East has been trying to get a contract with ITV Studios for nearly five years. It still doesn’t have one, but is getting its day in court. A federal trial has been scheduled for January 11 on a complaint issued by the National Labor Relations Board against the U.S.-based non-fiction production arm of the UK giant. The complaint follows the NLRB’s investigation of charges brought by the WGAE, alleging that early this year ITV implemented a health insurance plan over the objections of the guild which is the collective bargaining representative of ITV’s writer-producers. ITV’s shows include NBC variety series Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris , A&E’s The First 48 and TLC’s Four Weddings .
