Dave Chappelle Attacker Charged with Attempted Murder of Roommate
Courtesy: NBC 4 Los Angeles Attacking Dave Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl is opening an even bigger can of worms for Isaiah Lee , who's now facing attempted murder charges ... for a separate incident. The L.A. County D.A.'s Office says Lee stabbed his roommate back in December ... which flew under the radar until Lee made international headlines when he tried to tackle Chappelle earlier this month. TMZ.com District Attorney George Gascón says, "The publicity generated by the attack on Mr. Chappelle helped police solve this crime." Amber Heard Cross-Examined About Fights With Johnny Depp
Falls Church (VA), May 18 (AP) Lawyers for Johnny Depp on Tuesday questioned the truthfulness of Amber Heard's accusation that Depp sexually assaulted her with a liquor bottle. Heard was cross-examined for most of the day after her testimony in Depp's libel suit against her. Depp is suing Heard in Virginia's Fairfax County Circuit Court over a December 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post describing herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” His lawyers say he was defamed by the article even though it never mentioned his name. The trial is now in its fifth week. Depp's lawyer, Camille Vasquez, questioned Heard about a variety of incidents in which she says she was assaulted by Depp. Questioning was particularly intense over a March 2015 fight the couple had in Australia, shortly after they were married, while Depp was shooting a fifth film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise. It was during that fight that Heard says she was sexually assaulted. … [Read more...] about Amber Heard Cross-Examined About Fights With Johnny Depp

Politically Divided America Is “Very Good For Our Business,” Sinclair Broadcast CEO Says; Primary Ad Surge Points To Big Fall Haul
Stark political divisions in the U.S. have caused a surge in TV ad spending, with primary races in Ohio, Pennsylvania and other key states pointing to a massive haul in the upcoming fall midterms. One key beneficiary of that influx of cash is Sinclair Broadcast Group, the No. 2 owner of local TV stations in the U.S. The company’s CEO, Chris Ripley offered his outlook on political ads and other topics in an appearance at the MoffettNathanson 9th Annual Media and Communications Summit. “Some of these primary races are crazy,” Ripley said. He cited Ohio, where Donald Trump-backed U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance prevailed in a hard-fought contest. The $75 million spent on TV ads for the primary was 40 times more than what was spent on the primary in the last election, Ripley said, and four times more than the last general election. “On the one hand, I lament that we’re in the political environment that we are,” Ripley said. “On the other hand, it’s very good for our … [Read more...] about Politically Divided America Is “Very Good For Our Business,” Sinclair Broadcast CEO Says; Primary Ad Surge Points To Big Fall Haul
Fox Breaks With Tradition & Does Not Announce Fall Schedule On Day Of Upfront, Unveils 2022-23 Slate
Fox this morning announced the bulk of its programming slate for the 2022-23 but not a fall schedule. As Deadline reported two weeks ago, the network had been planning not to unveil a grid in conjunction with its May 16 upfront presentation. As broadcast networks have become a small part of media congloms’ portfolio pitch to advertisers, the fall schedules are no longer a centerpiece of their presentations and are sometimes omitted from the corporate upfronts altogether. But the broadcast networks still traditionally unveil their fall schedule the morning of their upfront presentation. Fox will announce its fall 2022-23 lineup to advertisers and the media soon, the network confirmed during an upfront press call Monday morning. The decision was made long before Fox could not close renewal deals for its top scripted series 9-1-1 and fellow drama stalwart The Resident in time for its upfront, which would’ve created gaping holes on the fall grid. Both renewals are … [Read more...] about Fox Breaks With Tradition & Does Not Announce Fall Schedule On Day Of Upfront, Unveils 2022-23 Slate
On the Road With Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and the Rolling Thunder Revue
B ackstage at the Rolling Thunder Revue , Allen Ginsberg (who has just dedicated his book of First Blues to “Minstrel Guruji Bob Dylan “) asks the convener of these revels, these winds of the old days, “Are you getting any pleasure out of this, Bob?” The convener, who can use words as if they were fun-house mirrors when he’s pressed, fingers his gray cowboy hat and looks at the poet. The first he had ever heard of Allen Ginsberg and the kind of people he hung out with was in Time around 1958 while he was still a kid in Minnesota. (“I’m Allen Ginsberg and I’m crazy.” “My name is Peter Orlovsky and I’m crazy as a daisy.” “My name is Gregory Corso and I’m not crazy at all.” That had broken up the kid in Minnesota.) Now, here on the road with this hooting, rocking carnival of time present and time past, both perhaps present in time future, is Allen, who has survived serene and curious, in a business suit. “Pleasure?” Dylan finds the word without taste, without … [Read more...] about On the Road With Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and the Rolling Thunder Revue
