New York Film Festival Sets Elegance Bratton’s ‘The Inspection’ With Jeremy Pope, Gabrielle Union As Closing Night Film

The Inspection , Elegance Bratton ’s narrative feature debut, will close out the 60th New York Film Festival with its U.S. premiere Oct. 14. Based on Bratton’s experience as a gay man in Marine Corps basic training after a decade living on the streets, the portrait of American masculinity and the military during the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell era stars Gabrielle Union and Tony and Emmy-nominated Jeremy Pope in his first lead film role. Filmmaker and photographer Bratton previously lensed documentary Pier Kids , about homeless queer and transgender youth in New York, and the Viceland series My House , on underground competitive ballroom dancing. ‘My Policeman’ To Receive Toronto International Film Festival’s Tribute Award For Performance

Michael Grandage’s Prime Video movie My Policeman and its ensemble cast will be lauded with the TIFF Tribute Award for Performance at the TIFF Tribute Awards. The movie, which is making its world premiere at the 47th annual Toronto International Film Festival stars Harry Styles , Emma Corrin, Gina McKee, Linus Roache, David Dawson, and Rupert Everett. Borat 2 star Maria Bakalova will chair the committee selecting Bulgaria ’s best international film submission for the 2022-23 Oscar race, the country’s National Film Center has confirmed. Bakalova was Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated in the 2020-21 awards season for her performance as Borat’s daughter along Sacha Baron Cohen. She is now busy forging a career in Hollywood where subsequent credits have included The Bubble , Bodies Bodies Bodies and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. She has remained loyal to her native Bulgaria where she cut her acting teeth in its independent arthouse cinema scene. Jonathan Rhys Meyers , Oscar winner Melissa Leo and Antonio Banderas have signed onto the Yale Entertainment action-crime thriller Clean Up Crew from director Jon Keeyes. The Ireland-based production recently wrapped, and Yale’s recently-launched sales banner Great Escape, led by Nick Donnermeyer, will handle foreign rights and introduce the title at next month’s Toronto Film Festival. Pic follows a crime scene clean-up crew, which includes Rhys Meyers and Leo’s characters, who discover a briefcase full of cash, unknowingly sending them into battle with mobsters – led by a ruthless crime boss, played by Banderas, as well as hitmen, and corrupt government agents who are hellbound to get the dough back. Lars Von Trier Diagnosed With Parkinson’s Disease, Work On ‘The Kingdom Exodus’ Continues

Oscar-nominated, Cannes Palme d’Or winning Danish director Lars von Trier has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Trier’s long-time producer Louise Vesth at Zentropa Entertainment put out a statement on Monday announcing the diagnosis with the director’s blessing. “In agreement with Lars von Trier, we want to inform you that Lars was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease just before the summer holidays,” read the statement.
