A fresh outbreak of monkeypox in Europe and the United States in recent weeks isn’t just a threat to public health. It’s also a warning sign. More and more dangerous viruses, having evolved in animal populations, are jumping to the human population. Bird flu. MERS. SARS-CoV-1. And of course SARS-CoV-2, which has killed 6.3 million people since the very first infection in Wuhan, China, 30 months ago. It’s not hard to see why these animal-to-human “zoonotic” viral outbreaks are getting more severe and more frequent. EXCLUSIVE: Italian actress Margherita Mazzucco , best known for her starring role as Elena in HBO and Rai’s My Brilliant Friend , has signed with ICM Partners for representation. Mazzuco landed the lead role of Elena Greco in My Brilliant Friend in a school and city-wide audition when she was 16. Created by Saverio Costanzo, the Neapolitan drama based on Elena Ferrante’s bestselling series of books, takes place in the 1950s and beyond. The series wrapped its third season last month and has been renewed for a fourth and final season, which will be based on Ferrante’s The Story of the Lost Child , the fourth book in her quadrilogy. The Art World’s ‘Mini Madoff’ Faces Sentencing for His $86 Million Fraud
Before Inigo Philbrick became known as the art world’s “ mini-Madoff ,” he cultivated a reputation as a wunderkind gallerist. A bon vivant with boyish good looks and even better connections, Philbrick opened two of his own art galleries by his early 30s. Philbrick had enjoyed the backing of a top gallerist and the trust of seasoned collectors. He boasted a comely girlfriend and had ingratiated himself with her family. Philbrick, as it would turn out, was a scammer. He pleaded guilty on Nov. 18, 2021 to one count of wire fraud. At the time, the then 34-year-old Philbrick admitted in court that between 2016 and 2019, he “knowingly engaged” in a scheme to rake in cash using “material representations and omissions” in his business deals, including shady tactics like peddling more shares in an artwork than actually existed.
