The future of high-profile unscripted NBC series including Amy Poehler’s Making It and Kristen Bell’s Family Game Fight ! is up in the air as the network has indefinitely parked them. Making It, Family Game Fight and AGT: Extreme did not make it into NBC’s schedule and it seems that they are the latest non-scripted series to neither be canceled or renewed – in a growing trend as highlighted by Fox earlier this morning as well as ABC with series such as Supermarket Sweep and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? It comes as the network has revealed that two of its other big unscripted series The Wheel and Million Dollar Island will launch in midseason. Miley Cyrus will help ring in the New Year on NBC yet again as she returns to host the network’s 2023 celebration. Revealed on Monday during NBC’s Upfronts presentation, the singer-actress will take center stage in the second iteration of Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party . The Cyrus-led celebration previously comprised NBC’s holiday programming alongside Christmas in Rockefeller Center, The National Dog Show and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. For the 2022 special, Cyrus hosted with Saturday Night Live ‘s Pete Davidson. The Miami set event, from SNL creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels, boasted performances by Noah Cyrus, Brandi Carlile, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Saweetie, Anitta, Jack Harlow, 24kGoldn, Kitty Ca$h and more. ‘The Masked Dancer’, ‘Alter Ego’, ‘Game Of Talents’ & ‘Mental Samurai’ In Limbo; No Sign Of Non-Scripted Series On Fox Slate
Fox put a number of its non-scripted competition series including Next Level Chef and a new Gordon Ramsay series front and center of its 2022/23 slate. The return of Next Level Chef is premiering after the Super Bowl in February and celebrity chef Ramsay is bringing his BBC format Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars to the U.S. Lego Masters is also moving from its summer spot and is getting a celebrity spinoff and The Masked Singe r is returning for an eighth season and Joel McHale-fronted Crime Scene Kitchen is also coming back. However, there are a number of Fox reality competition series that are in limbo with no sign of them being on the schedule, but equally have not yet been officially canceled. HGTV & Food Network Unveil First Slate Post-Warner Bros. Deal With More Guy Fieri & Nicole Curtis Series
HGTV and Food Network are bolstering their lineups. The two cable networks, which are owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, have unveiled their first slates following the merger – although the faces remain familiar. HGTV has ordered new series including Cristy Lee’s Steal This House, Rehab Addict Lake House Rescue from Nicole Curtis, Flip to A Million and First Home Fix, while Food Network has commissioned BBQ USA, It’s CompliPlated and Guy’s Ultimate Game Night from Guy Fieri. The new slates mean that the two networks will have more than 70 new series across their 2022 schedules with HGTV producing more than 570 hours of new original programming in 2022 including 3 new series and specials, and 27 returning programs and Food Network with more than 660 hours of new programming for the year, including 40 new series and specials, and 30 returners. YouTube Kicks Off Upfront Week With Research Asserting Its Bond With Viewers Is Tighter Than TV, Streaming Or Social Media
As YouTube took its first step onto turf long controlled by television — upfronts week in New York — the Google-owned video operation released new research affirming its connection with viewers. The new study conducted with the firm Talk Shoppe was summed up with the acronym RISE, short for relevance, intellectual, sensorial and emotional. It found that 86% of survey respondents said YouTube delivered relevant and intellectual programming, compared with results in the 73% to 79% range for other platforms. In terms of emotion, the number was 84%, edging social media at 80%. The lone category where YouTube did not come out No. 1 was in sensorial — aka the way programming looks and sounds — where it rated 72% and trailed streaming’s 76%. The stats were delivered as part of a breakfast hosted at the St. Regis Hotel. Fox Renews ‘Crime Scene Kitchen’ For Season 2
Fox has ordered a second season of Crime Scene Kitchen , a baking competition series hosted by Joel McHale. The show is a culinary guessing game in which bakers must decode what type of dessert was made, when all that’s left are the crumbs, flour trails and a few clues. They must then recreate the recipe for the judges, who will determine how closely it matches the missing dessert. The show featured Chef Curtis Stone and cake artist Yolanda Gampp as judges. “ Crime Scene Kitchen is unlike any cooking show out there,” said Fox’s Head of Reality Rob Wade before the show’s debut last May. “It’s a truly original format with amazing baking creations, a brilliant play-along guessing game for the whole family, and Joel at the center of it all bringing hilarity at every turn.
