Tonight the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, unofficially but affectionately known as Nerd Prom. The event is a celebration of the White House press corps, and brings together a collection of journalists, television personalities, politicians and D.C. power players. Traditionally, the President and the First Lady attend for some lighthearted chiding. The event always features a star-studded red carpet, dinner, presentation of awards and scholarships, followed by the always highly anticipated roast. Who’s headlining? Michelle Wolf, a writer and comedian best known as a contributor for The Daily Show With Trevor Noah. Her new HBO special Nice Lady, is out now. Is President Trump going to show up? By Lee Moran 1.1k Comedian Michelle Wolf has thrown down the gauntlet by daring President Donald Trump to attend the 2018 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, which she is slated to host next weekend. The WHCA said earlier this month that Trump plans to skip the April 28 event. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will represent the Trump administration instead. Check, please. President Trump said Friday he is likely passing up on the opportunity to break bread with the media at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner later this month. Trump suggested he will “probably” skip the feast, like he did last year, as he kept up his continued assault on what he sees as negative coverage of his tenure in the Oval Office. “It’s unlikely I will do the White House Correspondents dinner this year,” Trump said during a taped appearance on WABC’s “Bernie and Sid in the Morning.” He then went on one of his signature anti-media rips. “I sort of feel that the press is so bad,” Trump said. “It’s so fake, it’s so made up. There’s been some mixed messages today about the future of Nerdprom, but it’s generating significant intrigue on whether President Trump will participate when the circus comes back to town. Earlier today, the Daily Mail reported that they received an email from Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, saying Trump will appear for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this year.
