‘Rust’ Production Company Fined Nearly $137,000 For “Willful & Serious” Safety Violations: “An Avoidable Loss Of Life Occurred”
UPDATED with detailed summary of the investigation: The company that produced the ill-fated Rust movie has been slapped with a fine of $136,793 by the New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Bureau for its “willful and serious” violation of workplace safety procedures. The family of 23-year-old Asherey Ryan set up a GoFundMe to raise $100K to help cover funeral expenses for the young mother. Georgia Dobbins Davis, an original member of the Marvelettes and the co-writer of their classic 1961 hit, “Please Mr. Postman,” died Friday, September 18th. She was 78. Dobbins’ daughter, Kimberly Ann Watts, confirmed her death to Rolling Stone , adding the cause was cardiac arrest. In co-writing “Please Mr. Postman,” Dobbins played an integral role in the history of Motown and pop music. The track became Motown’s first Number One hit on the Billboard Hot 100. But by the time the Marvelettes recorded it in 1961, Dobbins left the group to look after her ailing mother and because her father forbade her from touring or getting involved in the music industry. Toronto Film Festival Closing-Night Film Is ‘Dalíland’: Where Is Ezra Miller?
The 47th Toronto Film Festival on Tuesday selected the Mary Harron-directed Dalíland as its closing-night movie. The pic stars Ben Kingsley as the older Salvador Dalí and Ezra Miller as the younger Dalí. However, the TIFF press release left Miller’s name off the cast credits. Lamont Dozier, Motown Songwriter Behind Countless Classics, Dead at 81
Lamont Dozier, the Motown songwriter and producer who helped craft hits for artists such as the Supremes, the Four Tops, and the Isley Brothers, has died. He was 81. The news was confirmed by his son, Lamont Dozier Jr., who wrote on Instagram , “Rest in Heavenly Peace, Dad!” A cause of death has not yet been announced. Dozier was born in Detroit on June 16, 1941 and launched his career in music as a singer, performing with various local doo-wop groups like the Romeos and the Voicemasters. In 1962, he signed to the Berry Gordy’s fledgling Motown records as an artist, producer, and songwriter, and quickly found himself working with brothers Brian and Eddie Holland. The trio — which came to be known as Holland-Dozier-Holland, or just H-D-H — turned out a few deep cuts during their year together, but generation-defining success came soon enough. EXCLUSIVE: Playwright Theresa Rebeck , who created the stage musical-themed NBC series Smash , has joined the real-life Broadway -bound musical adaptation of the 1988 film comedy Working Girl , producers announced today. Rebeck will write the book of the musical, said producers Robyn Goodman and Josh Fiedler of Aged In Wood Productions and Kumiko Yoshii. While Rebeck has had four plays produced on Broadway ( Bernhardt/Hamlet, Dead Accounts, Seminar, Mauritius ), Working Girl would mark her Broadway debut as a book writer for a musical.
