Amazon’s ‘Butch & Sundance’ Series Sets Showrunners
Amazon has set the creative team for its Butch & Sundance series. The adaptation, which has Regé-Jean Page and Glen Powell in talks to star, will see Alex Metcalf serve as showrunner with Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo serving as co-showrunners. The project, which landed a series order last year, was created by the Firpo cousins, who wrote Marvel’s Eternals . Metcalf was previously showrunner of Showtime’s The Loudest Voice and has written on shows such as Sharp Objects and UnReal . Apple TV+ has set the premiere date and offered a first look at Platonic , the upcoming 10-episode comedy series starring and executive produced by Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen . Co-created, directed, and co-written by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, the half-hour comedy is set to make its global debut with the first three episodes Wednesday, May 24, 2023 on Apple TV+, followed by new episodes weekly every Wednesday. Platonic follows a pair of former best friends (Rogen and Byrne) approaching midlife who reconnect after a long rift. The duo’s friendship becomes all-consuming — and destabilizes their lives. Gunter Nezhoda Dies: ‘Storage Wars’ Favorite Was 67
Gunter Nezhoda , a recurring and popular competitive bidder in A&E’s long-running show Storage Wars , died Tuesday in Utah six months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He was 67. His death was announced in an Instagram video posted by his son Rene Nezhoda. In the video, Rene Nezhoda says that his father was a smoker for 30 years and while the family remained hopeful throughout the last six months his condition had recently deteriorated to the point where doctors could do no more. He said his father passed away peaceful in his sleep, adding, “no more pain.” “He was one of the guys on Storage Wars that never really got any hate,” Rene Nezhoda said. “People just loved being around him.” Storage Wars chronicles professional buyers of abandoned storage units as they bid against one another on units sight-unseen (or mostly unseen). Regal Parent Cineworld Plans UK Meeting Of Shareholders As Bankruptcy Proceeds In Texas
Giant theater chain Cineworld will convene a meeting of its shareholders on April 20 related to the Chapter 11 process currently underway in a Texas bankruptcy court. The meeting, which is in-person only, is required by UK securities law, Cineworld said today, “in circumstances where the value of the company’s net assets is less than half of its called up share capital” – officially constituting a “serious loss of capital.” The purpose — “allowing shareholders to consider whether any, and if so what, steps should be taken to deal with the situation.” That said, there isn’t much stockholders can actually do beyond “consider” as they’re set to be wiped out, something the company acknowledged, saying, “It is not expected that any plan of reorganisation or sale transaction would result in any recovery for Cineworld’s shareholders.” The Board “is calling the General Meeting to ensure that this matter is addressed as required by the Act. Martin Wiley , a veteran producer and executive whose credits include Acts of Violence, Never Talk to Strangers and Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, died March 20, his son Cameron told Deadline. He was 65. A USC alum who got his post-graduate degree from UCLA, Wiley served as a creative executive in charge of development on films produced at Warner Bros., Sony, Lionsgate and other studios and the supervising producer and/or unit production manager for more than a dozen theatrical features. Wiley began his career in the late 1980s, serving as a producer or co-producer on films including Mutator, Diving In and Little Sister. His first executive producing credit came on the Steven Seagal action sequel Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995), and he was a producer on the Antonio Banderas-Rebecca DeMornay thriller Never Talk to Strangers the same year. Oscar winner and Academy member Roger Ross Williams is saying publicly what many in the documentary community have stewed over privately – that the sums of money being spent on Oscar documentary campaigns has “gotten insane.” And Williams, a former Academy Governor representing the Doc Branch, says something may be done about it. “We in the Academy, in the Doc Branch, have a campaign finance reform committee… to sort of try to work through that and figure out solutions to that. It’s gotten insane.
