R. Kelly, currently being held in prison with no bond following his federal indictment in Chicago, will be brought to New York in August for his arraignment on racketeering and conspiracy charges. U.S. marshals will take the singer, who pleaded not guilty to charges of child pornography in the Chicago indictment on Tuesday, to New York to face the Eastern District’s federal indictment on August 2nd, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday. Kelly also has a September 4th hearing scheduled related to the Chicago indictment. It’s unclear whether Kelly will remain in New York or be taken back to Chicago following the August 2nd hearing; he is currently being held in Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center. Kelly’s lawyer Steven Greenberg told the Tribune that the singer is currently in solitary confinement without access to television and only five minutes of telephone privileges a day. On Friday, Kelly associate Milton “June” Brown, also named in the … [Read more...] about R. Kelly’s New York Federal Racketeering Arraignment Set for August

Why Are Trump’s Businesses in Trouble? It’s All in the Name
In his new book Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump, Rick Reilly writes of visiting the president’s signature golf property, Trump Doral. He was shocked by how few people were patronizing the Miami, Florida, resort. “I went there and it was so empty you could shoot a machine gun,” he told Rolling Stone last month. “In fact, the day I left someone did come in and sprayed the place with a machine gun and no one got hurt, because no one was there. I walked all over, and I saw one group.” He said the same was true of Trump International, in Scotland; Trump International at Doonbeg, in Ireland; and Trump Ferry Point, in Queens, New York. “I think the presidency has really hurt his golf business,” said Reilly. Reilly was right. On Thursday, the Washington Post reported that business at Trump Doral has been in “steep decline,” and that the resort’s operating revenue has plummeted by a shocking 69 percent in the past two years … [Read more...] about Why Are Trump’s Businesses in Trouble? Internal Emails Reveal How Stephen Miller Leads an Extremist Network to Push Trump’s Anti-Immigrant Agenda
For nearly three years, Stephen Miller has used his White House seat to orchestrate most extreme anti-immigrant agenda in almost a century. But he hasn’t done it alone. A loose network of lawyers and advisers embedded throughout the Trump administration has worked closely with Miller to carry out the daily effort of pushing through draconian and often inhumane policies like separating migrant families at the border, detaining young migrants in cage-like facilities, and drastically reducing the number of immigrants allowed entry into the country. In other words, Miller, with his white-nationalist mindset and fervor to enact xenophobic policies, is far from an isolated actor. He’s the leader of a broad operation spread across the federal government. Newly released emails provided to Rolling Stone offer a glimpse of the working relationship between Miller and one of his internal allies and fellow ideologues: a senior adviser at Immigration and Customs Enforcement named Jon … [Read more...] about Internal Emails Reveal How Stephen Miller Leads an Extremist Network to Push Trump’s Anti-Immigrant Agenda
Pentagon Keeps Trump in the Dark About its Cyber Attacks on Russia
On Saturday, the New York Times published an important story about how the United States military branches are attempting to thwart and combat Russian cyber attacks on American utility networks and interference in elections. But deeper into the article, an interesting and disturbing nugget has drawn attention: The Pentagon has gone out of its way to keep President Donald Trump ignorant of certain details about the operation because of “the possibility that he might countermand it or discuss it with foreign officials.” After giving an in-depth account about the “deployment of American computer code” into Russia’s electric power grid, to work as both a warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin and a more offensive posture in the cyber warfare realm, the Times then wrote: “Two administration officials said they believed Mr. Trump had not been briefed in any detail about the steps to place ‘implants’ — software code that can be used … [Read more...] about Pentagon Keeps Trump in the Dark About its Cyber Attacks on Russia
Alkaline Trio on How Depression, Trump-Era Mayhem Fueled Their New LP
“You talk about us like we’re electricity or something,” Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba jokes when Rolling Stone mentions the pop-punk trio’s heyday at the turn of the 21st century. But at this point, it’s a simple fact: The band, representatives of a movement that once seemed eternally youthful, is now bona fide veterans. And if there ever were a comprehensive tome on the history of pop punk, Alkaline Trio’s chapter would be penned in blood and signed with a black-stained kiss. Unlike genre progenitors Descendents, Green Day or Blink-182 — we’ll get to them later — the Chicago band always stood out for its dalliances with the macabre, in songs that chronicled the squalid lives and death wishes of sad-eyed heroes (and feistier heroines). Kicking since 1996, Alkaline Trio now celebrate more than 20 years of gloom and rage on their upcoming ninth studio album, Is This Thing Cursed?, due August 31st. Produced by Cameron Webb (known … [Read more...] about Alkaline Trio on How Depression, Trump-Era Mayhem Fueled Their New LP
