The Golden Globes ritual this Sunday may prompt the usual groans in some circles, but it will also trigger some elegant paydays. Hollywood always seems at once apologetic and celebratory about the Globes, but the 87 journalists who annually cast their votes are smiling, not apologizing. That’s because they’re allegedly divvying up millions of dollars to reward their participation in one of the industry’s most enduring business schemes. A sprawling exposé in the Los Angeles Times greets this weekend’s Globes – a probe that details the paydays scored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association fraternity in its annual upstaging of the Oscars. Globes voters, we are told, are paid an additional $2.15 million above and beyond their journalistic salaries (if any) to serve on various association “committees.” Related Story Seth Meyers Renews 'Late Night' Deal With NBC Through 2025 & Strikes Overall Deal With Universal Studio Group Other perks come their way … [Read more...] about Peter Bart: Golden Globes Voters Get Their Perks And Paydays, But Also Clout

Todd McCarthy: The Screens Are Empty In Telluride
It’s time to start packing, to call around to find out what might be playing, to pull out the sweaters and a warm jacket for the first time in months and, above all, to look forward to a guaranteed long weekend of films that will all be worth seeing and that will provide a strong indication of what kind of serious movie year this will be. And now, for some of us, is when the miserable truth of the matter is staring us straight in the face: the movie screens in Telluride will be empty over this Labor Day weekend for the first time in 46 years. There will be no hour-plus ride from the Montrose Airport to the host town of just 2,325 year-round residents, no dash to grab the schedule where the titles to be shown will be revealed for the first time, no agonizing scrutiny of the schedule that reminds you, once again, that there’s no way you’re going to be able to see everything you want to see, even if you luck out … [Read more...] about Todd McCarthy: The Screens Are Empty In Telluride

It’s to say publicly, ‘Here’s what we’re trying to accomplish.'” Related Story USC … [Read more...] about Netflix Film And TV Chiefs Talk Diversity Strides And Goals, ‘Bridgerton’, ‘Jingle Jangle’ Breakthroughs
