The Chicago-based band Divino Niño filled their 2019 breakthrough album, Foam, with lush, anti-gravity dream pop, so light it seemed able to drift listeners into a blissful new dimension. But on their upcoming album, Last Spa on Eart h , the band is playing with bolder sounds — and their new single, “XO,” is just a hint of the surprises they’ve prepared. The track is one of Divino Niño’s most upbeat without abandoning their skill for lithe, breezy production. “Over that summer [when we made the album], we fell back in love with J Dilla ,” the band tells Rolling Stone. “We were also really into this reggaeton track by L-Gante [that] he did with Bizarrap . In both instances, we got really into the idea of creating a beat that had swing and felt a bit drunk, s o we definitely moved the drums samples a lot to create a less quantized vibe.” The song slides between English and Spanish, something that’s reflective of the writing on Last Spa on Earth. While Foam was … [Read more...] about Divino Niño Rebel Against the Church on Sparkling Reggaeton-Fused Track ‘XO’

‘Emily the Criminal’: Aubrey Plaza Wants to Stick It to the Man
Early in Emily the Criminal , Emily Benetto ( Aubrey Plaza , sporting a New Jersey-native accent) is asked about her permanent record in a job interview. It’s a trick question. Despite telling her otherwise, this prospective employer has already done a background check. They already know about the low points on her rap sheet. So they know, when she tries to explain herself, that she’s lying, or at least only telling half of the truth. It’s about “trust,” you understand. You can imagine why someone with a record who’s desperately in need of a job might fudge the details of their past, especially if they think they won’t get caught. Desperation does that. Getting a job might feel worth the risk. That’s the trap set for Emily more than once in this minor pressure cooker of a movie. Emily has essentially — professionally, anyway — been condemned. The rap sheet is only part of her problem. There’s the $70,000 in student debt that makes getting a job that much more urgent. … [Read more...] about ‘Emily the Criminal’: Aubrey Plaza Wants to Stick It to the Man
Brittney Griner’s Defense Team Appeals Russian Drug Smuggling Verdict Sentencing WNBA Player to 9 Years in Prison
Brittney Griner ’s defense team has filed an appeal against the verdict that has sentenced the WNBA player to nine years in prison after she was f ound guilty of smuggling illegal narcotics into Russia , Griner’s lawyer Maria Blagovolina told CNN . In addition to the nine-year sentence, Griner was also fined $16,400. The sentencing and fine were handed down in a decision issued by Khimki city court Judge Anna Sotnikova on Aug. 4. While the judge maintains that the court took Griner’s partial admission of guilt into consideration, as well as her remorse and charitable actions, the U.S. State Department maintains that she is being wrongfully detained. “Today’s conviction and sentencing by a Russian court of U.S. citizen Brittney Griner to nine years in prison further compounds the injustice of her wrongful detention,” Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken shared in a press statement at the time. “This step puts a spotlight on our significant concerns with Russia’s legal system … [Read more...] about Brittney Griner’s Defense Team Appeals Russian Drug Smuggling Verdict Sentencing WNBA Player to 9 Years in Prison

Jonas Brothers Announce Second Las Vegas Residency
The JoBros had some unfinished business in Las Vegas. On Monday, to celebrate Joe’s birthday, the Jonas Brothers announced that they’ll be returning to Nevada to perform three nights in mid-November at the same venue where they hosted a string of shows earlier this summer. “We had such an incredible time playing shows at the Dolby Live at Park MGM in June, so we decided to add a few more before 2022 ends,” the group wrote on Twitter. “Just like last time, we will be playing a different set list every single night.” VEGAS! Soccer Docuseries About Rivalry Between Mexico & America Kicks Off At Amazon
EXCLUSIVE : A documentary series about the rivalry between the Mexican and American national men’s soccer/football teams is kicking off at Amazon . The company will launch Good Neighbors , a three-part series on its Prime Video service around the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which begins in November. The series will look at the political, social, and sporting layers of the rivalry; Mexico has beaten the U.S. 36 times since 1934, when the first game was played, but the U.S. has the edge since 2000 with 17 wins and nine losses. It will feature interviews with the likes of U.S. star Landon Donovan and Mexico’s Rafa Márquez, who became symbols of their country’s cultures during their respective careers. It will also examine the passionate, international battle for on-field talent and fan support that has made the U.S.-Mexico border one of the most fascinating soccer frontiers in the world, with players—and families—from both countries becoming the focus of recruiting battles between … [Read more...] about Soccer Docuseries About Rivalry Between Mexico & America Kicks Off At Amazon
‘Arthur & Lancelot’ In Warner Bros Budget Crisis: Projected $130M Cost Too High
STUNNER! Legendary Pictures Postpones January Start Of ‘Paradise Lost’ EXCLUSIVE : Legendary Pictures’ Paradise Lost isn’t the only film being readied on the Warner Bros lot to face a budget crisis. Arthur & Lancelot , the David Dobkin script that Warner Bros paid $2 million to acquire last summer, won’t get made unless the budget drops dramatically. I’m told that even though Warner Bros dated the film for a March 15, 2013 release and cast Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington to play Arthur and The Killing ‘s Joel Kinnaman to play Lancelot, the back and forth on budget has gotten to the point that the studio has invited Dobkin to set the picture up elsewhere if he can. I’ve heard that what started as a $90 million (other sources said Warners would make it for $110 million) contemporary style re-imagining of the Sword And The Stone tale has a budget the studio fears could reach $130 million. The studio feels that is just too much for a movie with two unproven … [Read more...] about ‘Arthur & Lancelot’ In Warner Bros Budget Crisis: Projected $130M Cost Too High
Who Is Your Biggest Competitor?
Opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not reflect the views of Rolling Stone editors or publishers. Business consultants enjoy asking the question, “Who is your biggest competitor?” This is a question that elicits a common response. The person being asked the question inevitably responds with a name of a company that is in the same business industry. The person that is your biggest competitor doesn’t always have a physical presence. There is something else that is likely competing against you in business that you do not realize. Many people think that their biggest competitor is the person or company that is selling the same product or service that they are. The real competition is not the other person or company — it is the person looking back at you in the mirror. The person in the mirror has it out for you. That person is filled with fear and doubts. The person in the mirror is the one who could stop you from being successful. Yes, that person in the … [Read more...] about Who Is Your Biggest Competitor?
RS Recommends: The Best Ergonomic Pillows for Stress-less Sleep
If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. The bad news is that you may be sleeping wrong. The good news is that there are ways to correct this, like an ergonomic pillow that properly aligns your neck and spine, minimizing that creaky-neck feeling in the morning. While they do take some getting used to at first, especially if you’re most accustomed to extremely fluffy down or cotton pillows , a good ergonomic pillow can encourage better and more comfortable sleep in the long run. The best ergonomic pillows are nearly always made from memory foam rather than more traditional down or cotton, as memory foam holds its shape and is firmer, therefore providing more consistent support throughout the night. Research indicates they can help alleviate neck and back pain, headaches, and chronic issues like sleep apnea. The question becomes how to choose. What Makes a Good Ergonomic … [Read more...] about RS Recommends: The Best Ergonomic Pillows for Stress-less Sleep
