This year’s Zurich Summit kicked off with a bang as a host of top industry execs gathered on stage to discuss one of the most challenging topics facing the independent film world today – how to finance an independent film in the streaming age? The panel inevitably was drawn to the pros and cons of going down the streaming route. Former Lionsgate film chief Patrick Wachsberger , who recently was a producer on Oscar-winning hit CODA , spoke at length about the challenges he faced when financing the project. The Pathé title was a project he helped develop at Lionsgate and took with him when he left the US studio. Samantha Ruth Prabhu's upcoming fantasy drama Shaakuntalam is finally set to hit the screens all over the world on November 4. The makers of the film have released a motion picture video and announced the theatrical release date on September 23. Shaakuntalam is an epic mythological love story between Shaakuntala and Dushyanta, written by Kalidasa. Their love story was largely talked about, and the attire of Shaakuntala was one of the regular features at any school's fancy dress competition. Such is the popularity of the novel written by Kalidasa, titled Abhignana Shaakuntalam, on which the film is heavily based on. The beleaguered Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) had a good piece of news this week with the announcement that the landmark 80th edition of its Golden Globe awards will return to primetime TV after a year off the air. Under a one-year deal with NBC and Peacock, the show will be broadcast and streamed across the U.S. on January 10, 2023.
