Hillary Schneller knew what to expect when the Supreme Court ultimately overturned Roe v. Wade . The attorney at the Center for Reproductive Rights had been part of the team that defended a woman’s right to choose before the high court in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health. She heard Justice Samuel Alito’s line of questioning during the December oral arguments, the first sign for many of Roe ’s doom. She saw the leaked draft in May. Even so, “this is a bit of a colossal bomb that dropped today,” she said Friday afternoon. The “colossal bomb” effectively banned or significantly restricted abortion access in more than half of states. It also set in motion a new legal strategy for attorneys who protect abortion rights — one that lawyers at organizations like the Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood, and the American Civil Liberties Union are now devising as states act fast to push restrictions under the new legal precedent. “The federal … [Read more...] about Pro-Choice Groups Prepare State-by-State Blitz to Defend Abortion Access

“Thank you. Thank you very, very much. I’m not going to talk about it,” actor-comedian Jerrod Carmichael said up top, in his first opening monologue as host of SNL . “ I want to be clear up top: I’ve talked about it enough, kept talking about it, kept thinking about it. I don’t want to talk about it, and you can’t make me talk about it.” While Carmichael seemed at first to be referencing the fact that he’d recently come out as gay in his new HBO comedy special, Rothaniel , it turns out that he was, in fact, more than happy to address that particular situation. Carmichael said he hopes people will watch the special and referenced coming out, to cheers from the crowd, which he called “an expected response” in New York. “It’s actually why I live here. Trump Pauses Self-Obsession To Acknowledge His Role in Taking Rights from Millions of Women
Donald Trump is nervous that his role in overturning Roe v. Wade could hurt his chances of retaking the White House, but at his Saturday night rally outside Quincy, Illinois, nobody seemed much to mind. As the former president’s supporters chanted “thank you Trump,” Trump briefly addressed the monumental ruling at the beginning of his remarks, congratulating spectators and calling the overturning of Roe v. Wade “A victory for the constitution…the rule of law,” and “a victory for life.” The former president gloated over the number of Supreme Court and federal judges nominated and confirmed throughout his administration. It’s a stark contrast from how Trump has been talking about the ruling when the cameras are off. Sources told Rolling Stone Friday that Trump has been privately bemoaning the victory. A source who has been in close contact with the president in the weeks following the leak of the Supreme Court opinion that “He keeps shitting all over his greatest … [Read more...] about Trump Pauses Self-Obsession To Acknowledge His Role in Taking Rights from Millions of Women
