Sony Dates Horror Film ‘The Unholy’ For Easter Weekend

· March 8, 2021 ·

With Easter weekend less than a month away, Sony announced today that it will be opening the Evan Spiliotopoulos’ Screen Gems supernatural PG-13 horror movie The Unholy on April 2. The feature based on the James Herbert novel Shrine joins Warner Bros/Legendary’s theatrical release of Godzilla vs. Kong which is opening on Wednesday, March 31 (and also hitting HBO Max simultaneously) as the big wide releases for the holiday weekend. That period has traditionally been a robust time at the B.O. given how the frame coincides with spring break. During great pre-pandemic box office times, Warner Bros’ Batman v. Superman is the record B.O. opener for Easter weekend with $181M domestic, while Universal’s Furious 7 is second with $161.2M. There’s great hope in the industry that Los Angeles might have the go-ahead to reopen cinemas by Easter weekend. Turning Pages: Inside Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

· March 8, 2021 ·

Dolly Parton is many things to so many people: singer-songwriter, actress, humorist, icon. But to nearly 2 million kids around the world, she’s their librarian. Since 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program has delivered meticulously chosen, personalized, age-appropriate books every month to children up to five years old — all free of charge. Parton’s charitable endeavor, first launched in her native Sevier County, in the foothills of Tennessee ’s Great Smoky Mountains, was inspired by her hardworking, wise, yet functionally illiterate father. The program is the cornerstone of Parton’s Dollywood Foundation, which she started in 1988, initially with the aim of encouraging students to stay in school and offering scholarships and financial incentives for them upon graduation. The foundation’s efforts helped the county’s dropout rates to plummet from nearly 40 percent to six percent, and mobilized the community to work toward sustaining that improvement. Juilliard Must Modernize, or It Will Disappear

· March 8, 2021 ·

“Who the hell is Bruce Springsteen?” I thought. Dashing out the stage door of a late-night Broadway show to beat the blundering crowds back in 2019, violin case in hand, I stepped onto the uptown C train for a swift escape out of midtown Manhattan. As I scrolled mindlessly through email, a message caught my attention: My colleague was requesting musicians to record with Bruce Springsteen — later to be disclosed as a live album recording of Western Stars . Not recognizing the all-American legend and turned off by the Jersey shoot location, I asked my spouse if I should waste my time with this gig. Shocked, my husband immediately went into a diatribe on the greatness of “The Boss.” I was shaken at the almost-missed opportunity. I’d been a musician for decades, graduated Juilliard in 2013, and studied works like Paganini’s technically demanding 24 Caprices and Bach Chaconne. But I’d really never heard of Springsteen.
