On the morning of Sept. 27, 2021, Josh Hargis opened a private video-chat link for what the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee billed as an open dialogue about its newly implemented mandate. Everyone on Team USA would need to be vaccinated against Covid-19 by Nov. 1, unless they could obtain a medical exemption — or a religious one. The executive order to jump the scientific starting gun on the 2022 Winter Games was a harrowing decision, senior Olympic officials acknowledge, not least because they knew the anti-vaxxer crowd — emboldened by an emerging class of brazenly unvaccinated superstar athletes — would come at them with fake news. “From the start of the pandemic, we have made science-based, data-driven decisions,” the USOPC’s CEO wrote in a memo to all American athletes, which was attached to an invitation for the meeting and obtained by Rolling Stone . “There is strong support for this requirement from our community.” Among two-dozen or so … [Read more...] about ‘Get Vaccinated or Else’: The Anti-Vaxxers of the Winter Games Fought the Olympic Mandate. Neil Young has posted an open letter to his management team and record label demanding that they remove his music from Spotify . “I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” he writes. “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule.” “I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” he continues. “They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.” Young is referencing the steady stream of misinformation about vaccines that Joe Rogan has peddled on The Joe Rogan Experience . Last month, 270 doctors, physicians, and science educators signed an open letter asking Spotify to stop spreading Rogan’s baseless claims. “With an estimated 11 million listeners per episode, JRE, which is hosted exclusively on Spotify, is the world’s largest podcast and has tremendous influence,” the … [Read more...] about Neil Young Demands Spotify Remove His Music Over ‘False Information About Vaccines’

“I think it’s time science had a comeback,” says Brad Bird. “To me, science is God. The freezer-truck drivers had finally hauled off the last of the body bags by early autumn, from a makeshift Covid morgue in the city’s parking lot across the street. And by the time Kyrie Irving turned the corner last Friday evening to the Brooklyn Nets ’ riverside practice facility in the neighborhood of Sunset Park, he was let right in. But Omicron had grinched into town for the holidays, and the NBA ’s rigorous testing once again provided early indicators of an unrelenting virus. On the 17th day of December, the league had sent its who’s-who to quarantine: eight Nets a-swabbing, seven Bulls secluding, six Sacramento Kings, five sick Knicks, four Lakers stars, three Boston forwards, two head coaches… and then came a pseudo-pardon for Kyrie. The basketball superstar-turned-superhero of the anti-vaxxers entered a lab set up by the Nets a few steps from the private players’ garage. Two months after banishing him in response to his boycott of a New York City vaccine mandate … [Read more...] about The NBA’s War on Omicron Christmas: Behind Closed Doors with Kyrie Irving and the Anti-Swabber Superstars
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is still refusing to say whether he received a Covid-19 vaccine booster, despite former President Trump calling him “gutless” for dodging the question last month. “That’s something that, you know, I think people should just make their own decisions on,” DeSantis said on Friday when asked whether he’d been boosted. “I’m not going to let that be a weapon for people to be able to use. I think it’s a private matter.” Earlier this month, Trump bashed DeSantis and other politicians who have refused to divulge their vaccination status as “gutless.” DeSantis had declined to answer a question about whether he’d been boosted a few weeks earlier. His spokesperson explained to Florida Politics that it was a “private medical decision.” DeSantis hasn’t been so shy about bashing the vaccine in public, effectively discouraging Floridians from receiving it as Covid continues to spread throughout the country. The Republican implied on Thursday that vaccines … [Read more...] about Ron DeSantis Still Won’t Say Whether He Got Boosted Despite Trump Calling Him ‘Gutless’

Neil Young published a letter on his website Monday afternoon demanding that Spotify remove all of his music. “I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines — potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them,” he wrote. “Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule. “I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” he continued. “They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.” He took down the letter after just a few hours, but it had spread all across the internet by that time. Representatives for Neil Young and Spotify have yet to comment on the matter, and we’ll see if Rogan decides to address it on the next episode of The Joe Rogan Experience , but Young’s complete catalog remains on Spotify for now. That could, of course, change at any moment. This is far from the first time that Neil Young has used his platform to bash a … [Read more...] about Years Before Neil Young Took on Spotify and Joe Rogan, He Bashed Starbucks Over GMOs
Kyrsten Sinema ’s election to the Senate in 2018 was one of the Democratic Party’s few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing election. Democrats took back the House by a slim margin, but actually lost seats in the Senate, narrowly squeezing Sinema into the open slot left by Jeff Flake’s retirement. Democrats arguably knew who Sinema would be going in — she had said her Senate role model was Joe Manchin and amassed a shockingly pro-Trump voting record while in the House — and her first days in office basically confirmed this . Still, I doubt many of the party’s top brass expected this . Now, it appears the party’s progressive wing is dead-set on pushing Sinema out of office as soon as possible — in 2024, to be exact. Punchbowl News reported on Tuesday that Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego , one of Sinema’s most vocal critics from the other side of the Capitol building , flew to New York this weekend to meet with some of Sinema’s donors, most … [Read more...] about Primarying Kyrsten Sinema Won’t Stop Her In Time
