For proof, look no further than the unlikely ratings success of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” and on a platform designed in a much tamer, apolitical era. Colbert has trounced the competition thanks largely to his eviscerating political humor — a talent that, in any other era, would have alienated more viewers than it attracted. And when ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel began spending more time on his own show lampooning D.C.’s drainless swamp, his show went from amusing background viewing to a water-cooler event. People even began to notice that Seth Meyers had a late-night show (it’s coincidentally called “Late Night With Seth Meyers”) when Trump took office, and the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member began drilling down nightly on … [Read more...] about In the crosshairs of outrage: Roseanne, Kathy Griffin and now Kevin Hart. Wong Kevin Hart called his forthcoming Oscars gig the “opportunity of a lifetime,” but not everyone is thrilled by the comedian’s hiring. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced late Tuesday that Hart, whose film credits include “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” has been tapped to host the 91st Academy Awards on Feb. 24, 2019. The announcement brought backlash among a number of journalists and LGBTQ rights advocates, who pointed to Hart’s history of anti-gay jokes and tweets. BuzzFeed reported Wednesday that Hart, 39, has deleted some of the tweets, which date back to 2010 and 2011 — well before the comedian was a household name. Many, however, were already captured for … [Read more...] about Kevin Hart’s History Of Homophobic Tweets, Jokes Resurfaces As Oscars Gig Is Announced

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has held talks with Kevin Hart about hosting the 91st Oscars, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. If a deal makes, the star and comedian would be emceeing the event for the first time. First-time producers Donna Gigliotti and Glenn Weiss will oversee the show, with Gigliotti serving as producer and Weiss on hand as co-producer and director. The last two Oscar shows were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and produced by Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd. But each year ratings declined, with a record-low 26.5 million viewers tuning in for last March’s broadcast, which adds to the pressure the new team will face in mounting the show. The Academy, which has promised that the show won’t run over three hours, has already announced one change — not all the awards in the 24 Oscar categories will be announced live. Instead, six to eight categories will be announced before the audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood during … [Read more...] about Academy Eyes Kevin Hart to Host Oscars
6 minutes ago In recent years, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart have been one of Hollywood's most fun duos both on and off the screen. The former wrestler and the comedian have found tremendous success in movies individually and with their combined efforts in Central Intelligence and especially Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. That certainly sounds like these two have something in the works. Dwayne Johnson isn't clear about the specifics in his Instagram post, but he does indicate that him meeting up with Kevin Hart while he is on the set of Hobbs and Shaw is to discuss new opportunities, and that the two have some big things lined up.
