Pepe Le Pew Won’t Be Appearing In Warner Bros’ ‘Space Jam’ Sequel

· March 7, 2021 ·

EXCLUSIVE: He starred in the first Warner Bros. Space Jam movie back in 1996, however, Pepe Le Pew will not be showing up at all in the upcoming theatrical sequel Space Jam: A New Legacy on July 16. With the Looney Tunes French skunk besieged by controversy in the wake of New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow slamming that the cartoon character “added to rape culture,” Deadline has learned that a hybrid live-action animation scene between Jane the Virgin actress Greice Santo and Pepe Le Pew, shot back in June 2019 for Space Jam 2 was left on the cutting room floor. The live-action scene was filmed by the pic’s first director, Terence Nance. As we first reported in July 2019 , Nance left the production with Malcolm D. Lee taking over. Under the direction of Lee, Pepe Le Pew was eliminated from the sequel a while ago and never animated for the live-action footage which was shot. According to sources who saw a rough cut three months ago, they didn’t see any … [Read more...] about Pepe Le Pew Won’t Be Appearing In Warner Bros’ ‘Space Jam’ Sequel

Malcolm D. Lee Takes Over As Director On ‘Space Jam 2’

· July 16, 2019 ·

EXCLUSIVE: Malcolm D. Lee is taking over the directing reins on Warner Bros ./SpringHill Entertainment’s Space Jam 2 from Terence Nance . We hear that Nance’s departure from the project was amicable, and essentially the filmmaker and the studio/producers had different takes on the creative vision for Space Jam 2. Lee’s track record in comedy speaks for itself and his wit fits hand-in-hand with the sensibility of Warners’ slapstick Looney Tunes. In 2017, Lee’s Girls Trip was the only comedy to work at the domestic box office both in regards to opening and final take ($31.2M, $115.1M) with a star-making performance by Tiffany Haddish. Last year, Lee also had the best opening and gross for a pure major studio comedy with Haddish-Kevin Hart movie Night School ($27.2M opening, $77.3M). Both titles were released by Universal. Nance created the HBO TV series Random Acts of Flyness and directed the indie pic The Oversimplification of Her Beauty. Producers … [Read more...] about Malcolm D. Affleck on Directing a Batman Movie: It Would Be a Dream

· October 23, 2015 ·

Will Ben Affleck direct himself in a Batman movie? That's the question on everybody's mind as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice slowly and methodically lumbers its way to a March, 2016 release date. It seems like we've been waiting for this follow-up to Man of Steel to get here forever. But once it arrives, it will open the floodgates to the DCEU , with two new movies coming every year until 2020. While most of the slate has been confirmed by Warner Bros. and DC, there is still a question of whether or not we will see a true Batman standalone adventure before the end of the decade. Ben Affleck won't confirm that is true. But he sounds optimistic. In a recent interview with Total Film , he had this to say. "If I could make it work, yeah, Obviously that would be like a dream. The trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you - if you're going to direct it - that you can make it good. You've got to have the right idea and the right take on it... Broadly … [Read more...] about Affleck on Directing a Batman Movie: It Would Be a Dream

George Miller’s Justice League Documentary May Not Happen

· August 20, 2015 ·

Back in May, we reported that filmmaker Ryan Unicomb is putting together a documentary that examines director George Miller 's unmade 2008 superhero movie Justice League Mortal . The director has already secured private funding for the documentary, which is described as, "an unbiased account of the project's development, preproduction and cancellation, as well as the impact on the Australian film industry." We haven't heard anything about the project since then, and it seems there is one major obstacle standing in the filmmakers' way: Warner Bros. Pictures. The director has contacted Warner Bros. Pictures, seeking permission to use their characters and images in the documentary, which is entitled Miller's Justice League Mortal . In an interview with IF.com.au , Ryan Unicomb reveals that the whole project essentially hinges on Warner Bros.' approval. Here's what the filmmaker had to say, revealing that director George Miller and his producing partner Doug Mitchell … [Read more...] about George Miller’s Justice League Documentary May Not Happen
