Former The Walking Dead co-star Austin Amelio was on the small balcony filming a TWD Season 8 scene with stuntman John Bernecker in 2017 when Bernecker fell over, missing the protective pads underneath by two feet and landing on the concrete head-first. He died two days later from the severe head injuries. “I saw the whole thing, I was in complete and utter shock,” Amelio told the jury Friday in emotional testimony at the wrongful death trial of The Walking Dead stuntman. “It was the worst day of my life.” During the opening week of the trial in Gwinnett County, GA, attorneys for the plaintiff, Bernecker’s mom Susan, tried to convince the jury Bernecker’s death was preventable and the result of negligence on the part of the production. AMC’s legal team argued Bernecker’s death stemmed from human error on the stuntman’s part, saying he grasped the rail and held on during his flip off the balcony, which changed his anticipated … [Read more...] about Austin Amelio Recalls “Worst Day Of My Life” As ‘The Walking Dead’ Stuntman’s Wrongful Death Trial Wraps Week 1

Lou Reed, Velvet Underground Leader and Rock Pioneer, Dead at 71
Lou Reed, a massively influential songwriter and guitarist who helped shape nearly fifty years of rock music, died today on Long Island. The cause of his death has not yet been released, but Reed underwent a liver transplant in May. Look back at Lou Reed’s remarkable career in photos With the Velvet Underground in the late Sixties, Reed fused street-level urgency with elements of European avant-garde music, marrying beauty and noise, while bringing a whole new lyrical honesty to rock & roll poetry. As a restlessly inventive solo artist, from the Seventies into the 2010s, he was chameleonic, thorny and unpredictable, challenging his fans at every turn. Glam, punk and alternative rock are all unthinkable without his revelatory example. “One chord is fine,” he once said, alluding to his bare-bones guitar style. “Two chords are pushing it. Three chords and you’re into jazz.” Lewis Allan “Lou” Reed was born in Brooklyn, in 1942. … [Read more...] about Lou Reed, Velvet Underground Leader and Rock Pioneer, Dead at 71
Danny Aiello, ‘Do the Right Thing’ Actor, Dead at 86
Danny Aiello — the Oscar-nominated character actor who featured in films like Do the Right Thing, Moonstruck and The Purple Rose of Cairo — has died at the age of 86. Aiello’s literary agent Jennifer De Chiara confirmed to Rolling Stone that Aiello died Thursday night; no cause of death was provided. “Danny was a rare talent who overcame incredible odds to become one of our greatest actors,” De Chiara said. “He also was a wonderful person with a huge heart. The world loved Danny, and he loved them right back. He will be missed.” Over a career that spanned five decades, Aiello built a reputation for his portrayal of mob heavies, tough-talking New Yorkers and flawed husbands. After making his debut alongside Robert De Niro in the 1973 baseball film Bang the Drum Slowly, Aiello earned a walk-on role the following year in The Godfather: Part II; the actor reportedly ad-libbed the line “Michael Corleone says hello” when his character … [Read more...] about Danny Aiello, ‘Do the Right Thing’ Actor, Dead at 86
‘Killing Eve’ Recap: Keep ’Em Separated
A review of “Nice and Neat,” this week’s episode of Killing Eve, coming up just as soon as my moisturizer is made of pig’s placenta… “Nice and Neat” is an ironic title for an episode that’s anything but. Even more than the premiere, this installment demonstrates some of the strain that new showrunner Emerald Fennell(*) is under to make this series viable over the long term. Much of the hour is devoted to the ongoing aftermath of Villanelle‘s stab wound from the first-season finale, and the rest of it to Eve being absorbed into a new task force run by Carolyn, which turns out to have a new female assassin as its target. It’s the kind of grunt work even serialized dramas without behind-the-scenes turnover have to do when they return for a second season. And it’s rarely pretty, even in antihero classics like The Sopranos or Breaking Bad. (*) A third season was ordered only a day after Season Two premiered, and with it came … [Read more...] about ‘Killing Eve’ Recap: Keep ’Em Separated
