YouTube Restores Donald Trump’s Account

March 17, 2023 by deadline.com

YouTube has restored the account of Donald Trump , joining other tech platforms that are removing restrictions put in place following the January 6th attack on the Capitol. Leslie Miller, vice president of YouTube public policy, said in a statement that the Donald J. Trump channel “is no longer restricted and the ability to upload new content is restored.” “We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, balancing that with the importance of preserving the opportunity for voters to hear equally from major presidential candidates in the run up to an election,” Miller said. “This channel will continue to be subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube.” Last month, Meta said that it was reinstating Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram. After he purchased Twitter, Elon Musk restored Trump to the platform, but the former president has yet to return and continues to post on his own social media platform, Truth Social. In the … [Read more...] about YouTube Restores Donald Trump’s Account

Dwight Howard’s #FreePalestine Tweet — Palestinian Org.: He Should NOT Apologize for

July 15, 2014 by www.tmz.com

Dwight Howard should NOT have apologized for tweeting #FreePalestine over the weekend ... so says a powerful Palestinian interest group who says Dwight's message was "humanitarian" in nature. We spoke with Hussein Ibish -- a Senior Fellow at the American Task Force on Palestine ... a D.C.-based org. that's dedicated to creating a Palestinian state that can peacefully coexist with Israel. Ibish tells us, "It seems fantastically mean-spirited that people would have a problem with what [Dwight] said. It was a very vague, humanitarian message. It's an unobjectionable value." As we previously reported, Howard quickly deleted the tweet ... and apologized for getting involved in international politics. "I understand why a sports star would delete the message and not want to get involved in such a serious issue," Ibish says ... "but what takes me back is that [Dwight] simply wished freedom for Palestinians. I don't understand the offense." When we asked about … [Read more...] about Dwight Howard’s #FreePalestine Tweet — Palestinian Org.: He Should NOT Apologize for

BBC Presenters Back In Studio After Last Week’s Boycott; Pundit Alan Shearer Addresses “Difficult Situation” On Air

March 19, 2023 by deadline.com

One week after the BBC ’s schedule of sport was severely disrupted with a boycott by staff in support of anchorman Gary Lineker , both the host and fellow pundits were all back on screen this weekend. Lineker didn’t take his usual position as host of Match of the Day on Saturday evening, but stand-in presenter Mark Chapman was quick to tell viewers this was an arrangement that had been scheduled “weeks ago.” Meanwhile, Lineker was in action at lunchtime, introducing BBC coverage of the FA Cup quarter-final between Manchester City and Burnley. His fellow pundit Alan Shearer addressed the issue that took them all off the previous weekend. “I just need to clear up and wanted to say how upset we were that all the audiences who missed out on last weekend,” Shearer said. “It was a really difficult situation for everyone concerned and through no fault of their own, some really great people in TV and in radio were put in an impossible situation and that wasn’t fair. … [Read more...] about BBC Presenters Back In Studio After Last Week’s Boycott; Pundit Alan Shearer Addresses “Difficult Situation” On Air

New Documentary Shows How American Evangelicals Are ‘Praying For Armageddon’ And Pulling The Levers Of Power To Achieve It – CPH:DOX

March 20, 2023 by deadline.com

Imagine not only believing the world is coming to an end, but wanting it to happen. Eagerly. Then, take it a step further and imagine people with such a mentality engineering American politics and foreign policy to bring about the very thing they seek — the apocalypse. It may sound outlandish, but there are many well organized fundamentalist Christian leaders and their followers working hard to make this doomsday scenario a reality, an alarming movement explored in the documentary Praying for Armageddon . The film directed by Norwegian filmmaker Tonje Hessen Schei and co-directed by Michael Rowley makes its world premiere Monday night at the prestigious CPH:DOX festival in Copenhagen. “What they are really pushing for is the destruction of our civilization. It’s quite outrageous and mind blowing, really,” Schei tells Deadline as we sit at a café in Copenhagen. “And I don’t think a lot of Americans realize that the sort of hidden end time Armageddon lobby… that … [Read more...] about New Documentary Shows How American Evangelicals Are ‘Praying For Armageddon’ And Pulling The Levers Of Power To Achieve It – CPH:DOX

That tops even previous nine-show weeks. Attendance at the Majestic was 101.71%, with a big average ticket price of $232.01. AFL-CIO’s Department For Professional Employees Sets Legislative Agenda

March 21, 2023 by deadline.com

The Department for Professional Employees , AFL-CIO , with which a dozen entertainment industry unions are affiliated, has set its policy agenda for the 118th Congress , centered on creating diverse talent pipelines, incentivizing diversity in hiring and strengthening creative professionals’ workplace rights. Dorning told Deadline, however, that achieving those goals in this Congress – with a majority of Republicans in the House and a slim majority of Democrats in the Senate – will be no easy task. “It’s definitely going to be a challenge. We see that,” she said. “But we see this as a long-term investment on our part, and our affiliates to create systematic change. So we don’t expect to get everything that we want right away. We’re definitely in it for the long haul, and we’re going to working a lot to try to make change.” Passing the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act is DPE’s top priority, though it remains a legislative long shot.
