BBC Chairman Richard Sharp helped to arrange a guarantee on a loan of up to £800,000 ($990,000) for Boris Johnson weeks before the then-prime minister recommended him for the role at the broadcaster, according to a new report. Sharp, a former Goldman Sachs banker, was involved in talks about how to help fund the former Prime Minister’s lifestyle in late 2020. At the time, Johnson was facing financial trouble due to a divorce, childcare costs, and bills for the refurbishment of his Downing Street flat, The Sunday Times Reported. The newspaper continued to report that in 2020 Sharp met Sam Blyth, a Canadian businessman and distant cousin of the former prime minister, who is said to have raised the idea of acting as a guarantor on a credit facility for Johnson and asked Sharp for advice on the best way forward. EXCLUSIVE: Peter Smith is leaving MBC Studios after four years as Managing Director. We’ve learned the international industry veteran is stepping down from the premium production arm of Middle Eastern and North African network MBC, though he’ll continue to advise on production and distribution. In a statement to Deadline, MBC CEO Sam Barnett confirmed the exit and said a successor would be named “in due course, in coming days.” Smith is a former NBCUniversal International President and was CEO of Cineflix Studios and Greece-based broadcaster Antenna Group. He joined MBC Studios in 2018 as it launched as the production arm of free-to-air network MBC, which is the largest media company in the MENA region. The USC Libraries on Wednesday unveiled nominees for its 35th annual USC Libraries Scripter Award, which honors the screenwriters of the year’s best film and episodic series adaptations, along with the writers of the works on which they are based. This year’s film nominees are the screenwriters and original authors from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Living, She Said, Top Gun: Maverick and Women Talking . In TV, screenwriters were nominated for penning episodes of The Crown, Fleishman Is in Trouble, Slow Horses, Tokyo Vice and Under the Banner of Heaven . Fox News said today that its besieged co-president Bill Shine is out, calling it a resignation. Shine becomes the latest to exit as the cable news network is battered by sexual harassment claims against bigwigs. Ken Lowe , former CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive, is joining the Warner Bros Discovery board of directors . The exec, who will replace departing board member Robert R. Bennett on April 2 pending a shareholder vote, is a familiar figure to the management team at WBD. Discovery, prior to its merger last year with WarnerMedia, acquired Scripps and its portfolio of lifestyle networks including HGTV and Food Network. Lowe served on Discovery’s board from 2018 until the close of the WBD deal last April. Lowe was chairman and CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive from its split with The E.W. Michael Porseryd is stepping down as the CEO of SF Studios , the Nordic production and distribution powerhouse behind the recent Tom Hanks-starring drama A Man Called Otto . The company said in a statement posted on its website on Thursday that the board of SF Studios and Michael Porseryd had jointly agreed that Porseryd would leave his position as CEO after six years. “To ensure a smooth transition”, it said, SF Studio’s board chairman Jan Bernhardsson will take over as acting CEO.
