7 minutes ago FX's new drama Pose spends a lot of time on focusing on the ballroom culture in 1987 Harlem, but there's also a portion of the story dedicated to our nation's current President. Specifically, two of the show's characters, Evan Peters' Stan Bowes and James Van Der Beek's Matt Bromley, are big-time businessmen hard at work within Trump Tower. That wasn't how it always was set up, however, as co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed Van Der Beek wasn't just going to be a boss in Trump Tower, but the building's biggest boss, as he was originally meant to play a young Donald Trump. Ryan Murphy and co-creator Brad Falchuk decided to pull Donald Trump out of Pose as a main character to prevent taking audiences out of the events of the show. It would have been easier to bring Trump in as a character had he not won the 2016 election, but with him leading the country and inspiring real-world headline after headline, Pose's creative team soundly chose to go with an alternate idea. … [Read more...] about James Van Der Beek Was Originally Going To Play Young Donald Trump On FX’s Pose
After finally seeing Red Dead Redemption 2 in action for the first time, it’s clear that the next great Western is not a film. It’s Red Dead Redemption 2. During a visit to Rockstar North’s studio in Edinburgh, I had been made aware of the hand-crafting involved in creating its vast 19th century American landscape, the meticulous sound design that ensures its score never arrives or leaves with a crash, and the effort that has gone into making sure there’s never a break in the action. It’s clear that every effort has been made to ensure the world is as action-packed and involving as possible. But none of that prepares you for watching the studio’s efforts working in sync. The way mud gleams in the sunshine. How a bank heist taking place during a monkey’s wedding looks positively poetic. And how the game’s protagonist, outlaw Arthur Morgan, drops to his haunches to contemplate the horizon after a period of player inactivity manages to … [Read more...] about Red Dead Redemption 2 exclusive gameplay preview: Riding with the Dutch van der Linde gang
Thanks to @vanderjames, co-host of the “Talkin’ Tehran with John Oliver and James Van Der Beek” podcast for lending his voice to tonight’s show. pic.twitter.com/cYtaFo7YmG — Last Week Tonight (@LastWeekTonight) April 23, 2018 John Oliver has found some interesting ways to get across complex information. Like the “Catheter Cowboy” commercials he buys airtime for in an attempt to get Donald Trump to listen to reason. In last night’s episode of Last Week Tonight, Oliver delved into the Iran Nuclear Deal, aka the next way Trump might try to murder us all. He laid out a very basic history of the relationship between Iran and the U.S., making it clear that this is a “ludicrously brief recap.” Given the depth of that history, that’s all he had time for. Of course, he also had time for a gag imagining a fake podcast about Iran, co-hosted by James Van Der Beek. And honestly, the time spent on this bit was beyond worth … [Read more...] about Things We Saw Today: Why Can’t This Fake John Oliver/James Van Der Beek Podcast About Iranian Politics Be Real?
John Oliver once again went after Trump and his administration on Sunday's Last Week Tonight. Among this week's topics: Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke, the Iran nuclear deal and the FBI raid on Trump's longtime attorney Michael Cohen. He also played part of a podcast parody he joked he was launching with James Van Der Beek called Talkin' Tehran. The audio bit featured the real voice of Van Der Beek as the two got into a heated exchange. "If you didn't think that James Van Der Beek was an expert in Iranian history, you need to expand your expectations of what people are capable of," Oliver quipped. John Ludwick, a former friend of Joran van der Sloot’s, claimed that van der Sloot admitted to killing Natalee Holloway and asked him to burn her remains, according to the woman who killed Ludwick in self-defense. The 32-year-old Ludwick was fatally stabbed last month trying to kidnap his ex-girlfriend, who said he spilled the beans on van der Sloot’s admission. “He told me that Joran did do it and hid the body,” former gal pal Emily Heistand, 23, said in a “Dr. Phil” interview that aired Monday. Van der Sloot told Ludwick he met Holloway at an Aruba bar in 2005 and spiked her drink, Heinstand recalled being told. Man who said he burned Natalee Holloway’s remains killed in Fla. They wandered off to a beach where Holloway had a bad reaction to the drugs van der Sloot secretly slipped her, and the Alabama teed started “foaming at the mouth,” Ludwick told Heinstand.
