Larry Wilmore’s ‘The Nightly Show’ Picked Up Through 2016 By Comedy Central
Larry Wilmore ’s The Nightly Show has been picked up by Comedy Central through the end of 2016. That’s good news, given that he now competes against Comedy Central’s former star of Wilmore’s berth, Stephen Colbert. Even before Colbert debuted, Wilmore’s show had taken a ratings tumble after Jon Stewart vacated The Daily Show in early August. Comedy Central moved Wilmore’s lead-out, @midnight , to 11 PM so as to become his lead-in, starting September 8 – same night Colbert debuted as David Letterman’s replacement on CBS’s The Late Show. Wilmore revealed the pickup to his studio audience Monday during the audience warm-up Q&A period. Comedy Central today confirmed the pickup reported by CNN. The new order extends the show’s life through the end of ’16. It’s not much of a surprise, given that Comedy Central has its hands full introducing Trevor Noah as Jon Stewart’s replacement on Wilmore’s lead-in show. Noah debuts September 28.
