Sky has unveiled a second series of I Hate Suzie and an adaptation of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, while confirming Universal Pictures ’ Wicked will be one of the first projects to be filmed at Elstree Studios, relocating from the U.S. The Comcast -owned outfit is to present the news at a glitzy London event taking place this evening, led by the announcements about Wicked, the new TV dramas, and comedies featuring Sheridan Smith, Katherine Ryan and Suranne Jones. Sky is upping its original commissioning by 60% to 200 shows this year, revealed by CEO Dana Strong last week. Universal Acquires Action-Comedy ‘Shots! Shots! Shots!’; Jason Momoa To Star
Universal Pictures has acquired the action-comedy spec Shots! Shots! Shots ! penned by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows ( The Package ), with Jason Momoa ( Dune ) coming aboard to star. The film’s plot is being kept under wraps. A director has not yet been set. Momoa and producing partner Jeff Fierson will produce alongside Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, with Mider, Burrows and Ridebacks’ Ryan Halprin exec producing. Universal Pictures’ Executive Vice President Matt Reilly and Creative Development Executive, Jacqueline Garrell will oversee the project on behalf of the studio. ‘Bronson’ And ‘The Mustang’ Scribe Brock Norman Brock Signs With Artist International Group
EXCLUSIVE : Award-winning screenwriter Brock Norman Brock ( Bronson , The Mustang ) has signed with Artist International Group for management. Brock most recently co-wrote the script for Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre’s acclaimed drama The Mustang , starring Matthias Schoenaerts. That title, about a convict who trains wild mustangs as part of a rehabilitation program, was released by Focus Features in 2019. Paramount Gets China Infusion: $1 Billion, 3-Year Slate Co-Financing Deal With Shanghai Film Group & Huahua Media
EXCLUSIVE : Paramount Pictures has made its most significant long-term alliance in China since Viacom chief Shari Redstone nixed a 49% stake sale to Dalian Wanda for $4.9 billion last year. The studio has closed deals with Shanghai Film Group Corp and Beijing-based Huahua Media for those companies to fund 25% or more of the studio’s entire film slate for the next three years, with an option for a fourth. The deal is worth a potential $1 billion in slate funds, which is retroactive to Par’s fourth-quarter films. It extends a relationship between the studio and Chinese companies that already was growing. The deal also will help Paramount with the release and marketing of its films in China. Shanghai United, the country’s second-largest distributor, will be very involved in assisting Paramount with the dating and distribution of its movies in China going forward. In its biggest contraction ever, the CW ’s DC Universe lost three series heading into next season with the cancellation of veteran Legends of Tomorrow as well as Batwoman, currently in Season 3, and freshman Naomi .
