You’re strutting onto campus like you’re stepping onto a catwalk. “Try Again” by Aaliyah is bumping in your head. (It wouldn’t be bumping in your ears for another year when the iPod debuted in 2001.) Your two-way buzzes at your hip. You pause to run a finger over your glittery lip-gloss and catch your reflection in the window. Dripping in head-to-toe blue velour, you pull the zipper of your body-hugging track jacket to just the right spot and turn around to admire the Siamese cat emblazoned on the back. Forget Juicy Couture. You’re a Baby Phat girl. It’s hard to describe the chokehold Kimora Lee Simmons’ globally-rocked Baby Phat line had on us in the aughts. Created as an offshoot of her then husband Def Jam founder and all-around mogul Russell Simmons’ Phat Farm line, Baby Phat became a moment-defining crossroads … [Read more...] about Baby Phat Comeback: Iconic Early Aughts Mall Brand Returns With New PUMA Collab

Dr. Oz Finally Explains Viral “Crudité” Shopping Video Mistakes: “I Was Exhausted”
For the first time since an old video of him shopping for crudité went viral, Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz has spoken out. “I’m at Wegner’s,” Oz says in the video, apparently mixing the names of two separate grocery chains, Wegmans and Redner’s. (Signs in the background of the video clearly indicate he’s at Redner’s). Asked on Newsmax yesterday about his confusion Oz replied, “I was exhausted. When you’re campaigning 18 hours a day…Listen, I’ve gotten my kids’ names wrong, as well. I don’t think that’s a measure of someone’s ability to lead the Commonwealth.” That gaffe alone may have been just a minor political blip, but Oz also used a very effete-sounding word in the video that may Pennsylvanians — and most Americans — may not know. “My wife wants some vegetables for a crudité, right?” Oz says while moving down the aisle and bemoaning the price of the produce he’s collected. “Guys, that’s $20 for a crudité and that doesn’t include the tequila. I … [Read more...] about Dr. Oz Finally Explains Viral “Crudité” Shopping Video Mistakes: “I Was Exhausted”

What Is the Future of Live Music?
Opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not reflect the views of Rolling Stone editors or publishers. Evolution is part of the never-ending life cycle. It affects all businesses, from the taxi industry giving way to ride-hailing services to in-store experiences morphing into online shopping. This century has seen the rise of music streaming, along with declining album sales. The entire music business industry has been disrupted, and live concerts are now a sizable part of artists’ revenues. The pandemic thrust us into a time warp that affected many things, including live music, which was hit especially hard, forcing many in the business to reinvent themselves. The concert industry recovered slowly in the second half of 2021. Some acts took a chance on hitting the road and reconnecting with fans — a gutsy move, given widely varying public health restrictions and Covid-19 still prevalent worldwide. Artists were always on the brink of a potential cancellation, … [Read more...] about What Is the Future of Live Music?

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. The Country Music Association has given out 88 awards for Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and New Artist of the Year since 2000. Of that number, can you guess how many winners have been African American? If you said “two” — Darius Rucker and Jimmie Allen , both in the New Artist category in 2009 and 2021, respectively — you’d be correct. Not exactly the strongest show of diversity for a musical genre that’s been notoriously one-noted with its representation. Allen, a Delaware native who’s written and performed his own music for years, understood the need for a script refresh. The Grammy-nominated artist also knew that if the narrative of little Black boys and girls never seeing country performers who looked like them was ever going to change, he’d have to be a part of the revision. And … [Read more...] about RS Recommends: Country Star Jimmie Allen Talks Cleaning Up Black-Dad Myths With New Dove Campaign
