Netflix & 21 Laps Producing A Feature Adaptation Of ‘The Poet’

· April 14, 2021 ·

Netflix has acquired The Poet , a true crime article by Corey Mead that was published by Greg Nichols and Matthew Pearl’s digital magazine and media company, Truly*Adventurous. The streamer has teamed with Stranger Things production company 21 Laps with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen producing the project under the label alongside Pouya Shahbazian. This true story, which is described as being in the vein of Gone Girl and The Gift , is based on hundreds of pages of never-before-seen documents and newly discovered sources. The article tells the story of Ruth Finley, who escaped a murderer as a teen only to find herself on the run again decades later as the BTK killer terrorizes her hometown. With a team of police investigators and her devoted husband intent on saving her, the identity of her tormentor is too chilling to believe. Last year, 21 Laps and Netflix set a first-look film and TV pact, with over half a dozen series in production and more than 15 additional … [Read more...] about Netflix & 21 Laps Producing A Feature Adaptation Of ‘The Poet’

Cannes Marché Nixes May Screenings Event, Moves It Instead To June 21-25

· April 14, 2021 ·

In a welcome move to avoid Cannes events in three separate months this summer, the Cannes Marché is scrapping its ‘pre-Cannes screenings’ in May in favor of a June 21-25 event. Given that most major sales companies are banding together to stage a virtual market at the end of June, this should now pave the way for most industry to carry out its Cannes-related business at the end of June. The Marché said today: “ Following the request from sales agents to have an event between the EFM and the Marché du Film in Cannes in July, the Marché du Film announced a few weeks ago the Pre-Cannes Screenings in May. More recently, some sales companies voiced their preference to hold the event later in June. We therefore decided to launch a wide survey to all buyers and sellers. More than 700 answered: a vast majority confirmed their participation in the Pre-Cannes Screenings and 66% voted in this new context for moving to 21 June. Listening to and answering the needs of … [Read more...] about Cannes Marché Nixes May Screenings Event, Moves It Instead To June 21-25

Adam Perkins Dies: ‘Welcome To Chili’s’ Viral Vine Star Was 24

· April 14, 2021 ·

Adam Perkins , the Vine creator, performer and musician who achieved an unlikely fame in 2015 for a three-second video in which he enthusiastically exclaimed “Hi, welcome to Chili’s!” while clad only in boxer shorts, died Sunday of undisclosed causes. He was 24. His death was confirmed on Instagram by his twin brother Patrick Perkins. “I can’t even really put into words what this loss means for me,” Patrick wrote. “I’m often asked the question, ‘what’s it like to be a twin?’ and my response is usually, ‘what’s it like to NOT be a twin?’…it’s all i’ve known. And i’m struggling to find the words to explain what it will be like for me to live in this world without him.” For a generation once devoted to the now-defunct blink-and-miss-them Vine clips, Adam Perkins was a familiar and widely shared touchstone. His Chili’s clip is reported to have racked up more than 20 million views in a year, launching scores of remixes, spoofs and tributes on the platform. He was followed … [Read more...] about Adam Perkins Dies: ‘Welcome To Chili’s’ Viral Vine Star Was 24
