Hard rock outfit Living Colour have corralled veteran rappers Chuck D , Black Thought and Pharoahe Monch to spit over Andre Betts’ remix of their Notorious B.I.G. cover of 1995’s “Who Shot Ya?” Per Pitchfork , Living Colour have been working the cover into their live sets for several years, but were inspired to record and release the cut in response to continued gun violence and police brutality towards people of color. The track will anchor a new EP, Mixtape , that will include several reworkings of “Who Shot Ya?” with a variety of guests. Betts’ remix is a fitting first salvo for the project. Prodigal Sunn (from the Wu-Tang affiliated group Sunz of Man) opens the cut with a vicious verse followed by the Roots ’ Black Thought, who bluntly spits, “It’s hard to keep count of the deceased / More dead niggas, another half-assed press release / Black man blood start to flood the street.” The song continues with Chuck D and a blistering guitar solo, after which … [Read more...] about Hear Chuck D, Black Thought, More on Living Colour’s Biggie Cover

‘The White Lotus’ Creator Mike White On “Sexual Politics” In Season 2, Possible Core Characters Return In Season 3 – Crew Call Podcast
At a time when we were coming out of quarantine, HBO’s The White Lotus , enwrapped with its murder mystery and imperfect, looney people, just made us want to go to Hawaii. Even if we were booked in the wrong room, and everyone around us was ticking us off. Mike White ’s opus about class divide, abuse of privilege and late middle age melancholy in paradise scored 20 Emmy nominations, the second most for any show this year after HBO’s Succession (25) and tied with AppleTV+’s Ted Lasso . White alone is up for three Emmys including directing, writing and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. “What I wanted to do originally was a show about a couple on a honeymoon,” said White about his first draft of the project, “You don’t know the person until they’re in this situation (on vacation).” He also sought to explore “how money impacts even intimate relationships; the idea built out to the rest of the storylines. Who has the money can impact every kind of … [Read more...] about ‘The White Lotus’ Creator Mike White On “Sexual Politics” In Season 2, Possible Core Characters Return In Season 3 – Crew Call Podcast

‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’: The MCU Takes on the Sitcom
Among the running gags of Disney+’s new Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is that its title character — a.k.a. Jennifer Walters, cousin to Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, who becomes big and green after their blood accidentally intermingles in a car accident — hates her own nickname. “It’s so dumb!” she complains. “I can’t even exist without being a derivative of the Hulk .” The comic-book version of She-Hulk has rarely had to worry about this. Despite the green skin and superstrength, she has occupied a relatively unique space within the Marvel universe. She is a Hulk who retains her own personality even when powered up(*). She is a lawyer whose specialty is cases involving other superheroes. Where most of her peers tend to treat their heroic identities as necessary evils they’d rather do without, she loves being the stronger, more confident, and more glamorous She-Hulk, and resents having to occasionally turn back to normal. And most importantly, she has largely been written as … [Read more...] about ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’: The MCU Takes on the Sitcom
