2ND UPDATE: “I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t want to believe it,” a crying Jane Doe #1 told a downtown Los Angeles courtroom in the Danny Masterson rape trial Thursday afternoon, about a phone call she had with Masterson soon after the defendant allegedly sexually assaulted her in April 2003. The That ’70s Show actor had told the witness that the two of them “had sex” after she beseeched him “what happened?” Throughout the afternoon, Jane Doe #1/Jen B was often in tears under cross-examination — even more so than in her testimony earlier this week. The court had to break at one point for a short period around 2:20 p.m. PT and the jury was sent out of the room because of the severity of her distress. However, the witness remained succinct and steely in refuting defense lawyer Philip Cohen’s attempts to dive into the compensation she got from Masterson in a 2004 settlement after signing an NDA. “No,” said Jen B to Cohen’s question of “did you receive a large sum of … [Read more...] about Danny Masterson Rape Trial Sees Jane Doe #1 And Defense Spar Over NDA Payout, More – Update

Netflix Stock Surges To 9-Month High As Wall Street Cheers Q4 Subscriber Gains, Smoothly Executed Succession Plan
Netflix stock closed the week at its highest level since last April, rising more than 8% Friday to end at $342.50 after the company reported strong subscriber growth and executed a smooth handoff atop its executive ranks. A darling of investors for most of its two-plus decades of public trading, Netflix stock appears to have its mojo back and has already risen 15% since 2023 began. The catalyst for today’s upswing, which came amid nearly triple the stock’s normal trading volume, was Thursday’s fourth-quarter earnings report. The company said it added almost 7.7 million global subscribers in the period, reaching 230.75 million, far exceeding analysts’ consensus forecast. Beyond the subscriber tally, the results were more mixed, with revenue inching up just 2% and earnings per share missing estimates by a large margin. Surfers tell us why Western Australia is the best place in the world to live like a retired rockstar
Heinrich Böll’s short story, ‘Anecdote Concerning the Lowering of Productivity’ might be one of the most famous tales of the internet era. Although it was originally published in 1963, its brevity and “gotcha” ending have made it the prime subject for IM and social media sharing. It’s so popular it’s one of those things that are so misattributed, misquoted, and modified that at a certain point nobody knows where it originally came from. All of you surely know it already. A smug tourist attempts to lecture a scruffily dressed fisherman about how to live his life and ends up receiving quite the lesson. The story is fantastic, definitively one of Böll’s best, but it has been shared so many times on grandma’s Facebook page and co-opted by so many wellness gurus that I can’t help cringing at it. Speaking to these surfers that have spent their lives pouring their blood, sweat, and tears to improve their local communities, the overused tale suddenly came back to me, and I must … [Read more...] about Surfers tell us why Western Australia is the best place in the world to live like a retired rockstar
Amy Poehler & Tina Fey Leave The Bar High For Golden Globes Show – Review
Meryl Streep nailed it when she said, in the final seconds of the 72nd Golden Globe Awards telecast: “How much are we going to miss Amy and Tina?” The co-hosts, sparingly but brilliantly deployed throughout NBC ’s three-hour-three-minute telecast, opened the show with a string of zingers connected to the Sony hack, North Korea and The Interview . Fey welcomed “all you despicable, spoiled, minimally talented brats,” referencing (perhaps even defusing) an email between a certain film producer and a certain SPE executive. The were ably assisted by comedienne Margaret Cho, impersonating a North Korean member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association who was decidedly non-plussed by the event (where are 1,000 children playing the same song on the guitar, she demanded to know. Where’s Dennis Rodman?). They executed several exquisite barbs (I especially loved Poehler’s “ Boyhood proves there are still roles for women over 40—as long as you’re hired before you’re 40,” and … [Read more...] about Amy Poehler & Tina Fey Leave The Bar High For Golden Globes Show – Review
