EXCLUSIVE : The Who’s the Boss? sequel series has found a home. The project, reuniting original stars Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano and executive produced by Norman Lear, has landed at Amazon Freevee for development. The follow-up is being written/executive produced by One Day at a Tim e co-creator/exec producer/co-showrunner Mike Royce and co-executive producer Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz. Sony Pictures Television, which owns the rights to the original series and has been working on the sequel for the past two years, is the studio. Danza and Milano are set to reprise their roles as Tony and Samantha Micelli. Set 30 years after the events of the original series, the sequel will focus on former Major League Baseball player/retired housekeeper Tony Micelli (Danza) and his relationship with his daughter Samantha (Milano). EXCLUSIVE: Myles Frost , the moonwalking star of Broadway’s MJ The Musical who recently, at age 22, became the youngest-ever recipient of the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical, has signed with UTA in all areas. UTA will help expand Frost’s career across a variety of verticals, including film, television, brand endorsements and more. James Rado , who along with his friend and writing partner Gerome Ragni created Broadway ’s seminal Age of Aquarius musical Hair , died peacefully Tuesday evening of cardio respiratory arrest in New York City, surrounded by family. He was 90. His death was announced by his longtime friend, publicist Merle Frimark. Steve Fickinger Dies: Producer On Broadway’s ‘Dear Evan Hansen’, Former Disney Theatrical Exec Was 62
Steve Fickinger , a Tony Award-winning producer of Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen who, as a longtime creative executive with Disney Theatrical Group helped spearhead the development of such stage shows as Newsies and Aladdin, died suddenly at his home in Laguna Beach, California, on June 17. He was 62. His death was announced by his niece, Jessica Roy. A cause of death was not specified. In a two-decade career with Disney, which began as a temp in the mail room, Fickinger worked in the mid-1990s as Director of Creative Development for Walt Disney Feature Animation, overseeing such projects as Mulan, Tarzan, and Lilo and Stitch. Broadway’s ‘Music Man’ Star Sutton Foster Tests Covid-Positive For Second Time
Sutton Foster , who stars opposite Hugh Jackman in the Broadway hit revival The Music Man , has tested positive for Covid for the second time since December and will miss performances until Wednesday, July 6. Jackman returned to the show on June 22 following his own second bout with the illness, which he announced the day after appearing with the cast on the June 12 Tony Awards. Both Jackman and Foster had previously tested positive for Covid back in December during the musical’s previews. “I’m so sorry to share this news,” said Foster, who plays librarian Marion Paroo in the production at the Winter Garden Theatre, in an Instagram video post yesterday, “but this morning I tested positive for COVID. Broadway box office held steady last week, with total grosses of $30,789,627 showing a 4% increase over the previous week even with two fewer shows on the boards. Of particular note, A Strange Loop and MJ have held on to their post-Tony Award strength: Both productions were among the roster’s full houses. A Strange Loop , which won the Tony for Best Musical, broke the Lyceum Theatre box office house record for a standard 8-performance week, taking $860,496 for the week ending June 26, a $15,183 bump over the stellar previous week. In television, Gad played a fictionalized version of himself on FX’s The Comedians , opposite Billy Crystal, and was a series regular on NBC’s 1600 Penn, which he co-created. Broadway Cast Announced For Tom Stoppard’s ‘Leopoldstadt’
Most of the 38-member cast of the upcoming Broadway production of Tom Stoppard ’s Olivier Award-winning Leopoldstadt was announced today, with four members of the original West End company making the move and newcomers to the show set to include Caissie Levy, Brandon Uranowitz, Seth Numrich and David Krumholtz. Twenty-three of the cast members announced today will be making their Broadway debuts with Leopoldstadt, according to producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Roy Furman, and Lorne Michaels. Patrick Marber, who directed the West End staging, will direct for Broadway as well. Leopoldstadt ’s limited Broadway engagement will begin previews Wednesday, September 14, with an official opening on Sunday, October 2, at the Longacre Theatre. Set in Vienna, Leopoldstadt begins in the last days of 1899 and follows one extended family well into the 20th Century.
