Hill integral to bringing 109th NAACP national conference to San Antonio
By Ingrid Wilgen, Staff Writer Published 6:20 pm, Thursday, May 10, 2018 Minnie Mabry Hill’s work at the local NAACP chapter amplified her commitment to the city’s African-American population. One of her most significant projects as the group’s community coordination committee chair was raising seed capital to bring the national NAACP 109th Annual Convention to the Alamo City this summer. It’s scheduled for July 14-18. “She was the catalyst for making sure the 2018 convention came to San Antonio,” said her husband, Oliver Hill. Hill enlisted support from community leaders and city officials including former Mayor Ivy Taylor, City Manager Sheryl Sculley and County Commissioner Tommy Calvert. Local officials backing Government Hill leaders after attempted coup
By Richard Webner Updated 6:00 am, Friday, May 4, 2018 The leaders of the Government Hill Alliance Neighborhood Association have withstood an attempted takeover — so far — by residents who say the neighborhood isn’t doing enough to control the new development sweeping through San Antonio’s urban core. The city continues to recognize the existing board, led by president Rose Hill, said Verónica Soto, director of the city’s Neighborhood and Housing Services Department. The city recognizes whomever is listed as the association’s leaders in official documents, and state nonprofit records show that Hill is still president, she said.
