How Producers Of ‘Attenborough’s Life In Colour’ Overcame A Covid-Ravaged Shoot To Deliver Early For The BBC & Netflix
BBC and Netflix series Attenborough’s Life In Colour sets out to explore the wonder of nature and its kaleidoscope of colors, but for producers at Humble Bee Films , filming the natural history show was far from black and white. Executive producer Stephen Dunleavy tells Deadline that soon after production got underway on the project, which unites Netflix and the BBC for the first time on a wildlife show, the pandemic ravaged filming plans. A trip to Costa Rica with the great naturalist, David Attenborough, was in the can, but it was during a visit to the Cairngorms in Scotland early last year that Covid-19 began to rear its ugly head in the UK. Up to 10 shoots were wiped out by the pandemic, with producers having to abandon travel plans to Italy among other locations, while 95-year-old Attenborough safely ensconced himself at home in leafy south-west London. The Gospel of Robert Finley, Dan Auerbach’s Favorite Singer
Earlier this winter, Robert Finley was backstage at Seattle’s Showbox nightclub discussing his remarkable personal history when the subject of his age came up. The soul singer said he would be turning 64 soon – on February 13th, in fact. “Robert, that’s tomorrow,” said his friend and bandleader Dan Auerbach , breaking into laughter. “With Robert,” Auerbach explained, “every day is his birthday, and is a bit of a celebration.” Finley has plenty of reasons to celebrate lately. After spending almost all of his life living in obscurity within 50 miles of the tiny town of Bernice, Louisiana, Finley has been playing sold-out rooms across the country as part of Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound Revue (That tour just wrapped last week; Finley begins a solo headlining tour May 20th in New York). Tonight in Seattle, Finley sang six songs, bringing the house down with his booming range, posessing what Auerbach calls a “deep yearning.” Related Inside Dan Auerbach's Own Rolling Thunder … [Read more...] about The Gospel of Robert Finley, Dan Auerbach’s Favorite Singer
Inside Dan Auerbach’s Own Rolling Thunder Revue
Dan Auerbach can’t even make it to the dressing room before he has to stop to talk about the gig he just played. “This is the most fun I’ve had onstage,” he says, beaming in the hallway of Seattle’s Showbox nightclub as roadies navigate around him. “This band, these players, these legends – this is exactly why I love music.” He’s talking about his Easy Eye Sound Revue, which kicks off its second leg Thursday at Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club and runs through April 5th . The tour is named after Auerbach’s Nashville studio, where he has been making music with longtime session pros like drummer Gene Chrisman and keyboardist Bobby Wood since the Black Keys went on hiatus in 2014. “These guys played with Elvis, and were on ‘Son of a Preacher Man,'” Auerbach says. Those players take the music from his 2017 album, Waiting on a Song , to new heights live, performing explosive versions of tracks like “Stand By My Girl” and “Cherrybomb,” a dark, Grateful Dead–style jam. “There was no … [Read more...] about Inside Dan Auerbach’s Own Rolling Thunder Revue
