In 1952, the second season of CBS sitcom I Love Lucy set viewing records that, 70 years later, have yet to be beaten. The star was Lucille Ball , a lovable klutz from New York, and her husband Ricky was played by her real-life spouse—Cuban refugee Desi Arnaz . Together they founded Desilu Productions, soon to be the No. 1 independent TV company in America. In 1957, however, a scandal surfaced that threatened to tear it all down: Lucy was a registered Communist. Or was she? That fraught time is brought to life by Aaron Sorkin in his Amazon Studios release Being the Ricardos , starring Nicole Kidman as Lucy and Javier Bardem as Desi. Damon Wise sits down with all three to discuss the forgotten legacy of a most unlikely power couple. Calling the Shots: Aaron Sorkin Being the Ricardos is Aaron Sorkin’s 10th credited feature script and his third film as director. In that 30-year period—beginning with 1992’s A Few Good Men , which he penned for Rob … [Read more...] about We Love Lucy: How Nicole Kidman & Javier Bardem Became The Ricardos For Aaron Sorkin

Netflix has released new photos from the upcoming second season of its hit Regency England drama Bridgerton ahead of its March 25 debut. They include Season 2 romantic protagonists Anthony and Kate at a ball from Episode 4 giving out vibes very similar to Daphne and Simon’s first dance in Episode 2 of Season 1. Also included are photos of the series’ fan favorite BFFs, Penelope (aka Lady Whistledown) and Eloise, the Bridgerton brothers during fencing practice, a first glimpse at Daphne in Season 2, Kate showing off some hunting skills in front of the Bridgerton boys, and Queen Charlotte engaging in her favorite past time — reading the latest Lady Whistledown gossip. There is a new photo of the Sharma sisters as well as a shot of Portia Featherington with her daughters in surprising ball attire — all have ditched their signature garnish florals for slick neutral-colored gowns. (The bright colors are not completely gone from the sisters’ wardrobe as evidenced by the dress Penelope … [Read more...] about ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 Photos: Dancing Anthony & Kate, BFFs Penelope & Eloise, Daphne And Queen Charlotte
Trying to predict Kanye West ’s next move is a little bit like trying to predict the weather in San Francisco: difficult yet almost consistently disappointing. One rare possible exception is his burgeoning relationship with Uncut Gems starlet Julia Fox , a former designer and photographer turned New York City girl-about-town turned Hollywood starlet who is now adding celebrity gossip blogger to her resume with her frequent updates in Interview Magazine about one of the most transparently publicity-oriented relationships in Hollywood history. Reports and paparazzi photos first started surfacing of West and Fox in early January, culminating in an impromptu photo shoot styled by West at NYC hotspot Carbone that prompted onlookers, according to Fox, to cheer them on while it was happening (though more likely than not they probably just ate their spicy rigatoni and pretended not to notice Fox’s early-aughts homage whale tail). That date was documented by Fox in Interview, who … [Read more...] about What, Exactly, Are Julia Fox and Pete Davidson Planning?
Autism experts like to say that if you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism. The autism spectrum is so wide and broad that each case presents itself with snowflake-like uniqueness. You can find two people who are at roughly the same level of functioning with their autism spectrum disorder, or ASD, yet their personalities and ways of functioning will present so differently as to feel like they have wildly different diagnoses. Television has tended to paint with a broader brush when it comes to characters with autism. For a long time, when the small screen featured ASD, it was represented in the form of individuals with tenuous connections at best to the real world, like young Tommy Westphall on St. Elsewhere , who was revealed in that show’s finale to have imagined the entire series while staring at his favorite snow globe all day, every day. The mid- to late-2000s, meanwhile, brought a spate of characters — like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory , Abed on … [Read more...] about ‘As We See It’ Offers a Fuller Spectrum of Autism Experiences
Boundary-pushing avant-indie crew Animal Collective and video artist Danny Perez took over the iconic rotunda of New York’s Guggenheim Museum last night, bringing their signature weirdness to a capacity audience of 1,500 people. Billed as an “immersive environment for visitors to come and go through,” the unique performance titled Transverse Temporal Gyrus was part rock concert, part art installation, part hang-out session, and part Night at the Museum , where wild things come to life after the sun goes down. The piece was a mix of Matthew Barney and Wicker Man , as three of the four members of Animal Collective — Avey Tare, Deakin and Geologist — stood nearly motionless for three hours in the center of the room, guarding glowing video orbs and donning black robes, white gloves and creep-tastic white bunny masks. A pool of glass stalagmites jetted upwards, a puffy 8-foot-tall mountain stood menacingly in the background and Perez’s epileptic video art flickered up the rotunda, … [Read more...] about Animal Collective’s Offbeat Art Project Comes to the Guggenheim
