The African American Film Critics Association on Monday revealed winners of its 14th annual AAFCA Awards honoring the best in film. The Woman King , Till , Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery each won a pair of awards. Among the honors, The Woman King was named the year’s best picture, with the film’s Gina Prince-Bythewood named best director. Danielle Deadwyler ( Till ) and Jeremy Pope ( The Inspection ) were named best actress and actor. Angela Bassett ( Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ) and Brian Tyree Henry ( Causeway ) won the supporting prizes. GLAAD , the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced the nominees for the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards . Current RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Salina EsTitties and Sasha Colby announced nominees in select GLAAD Media Awards categories in a ‘ GLAAD Drag Story Time’ video that just debuted on GLAAD’s YouTube. In the video, Sasha Colby commented on recent attacks on drag performers across the country: “Performers like us are being threatened with anti-LGBTQ bills, nasty protests, and even violence. You know what’s scary? People with guns, not queens with books!” In 2022, GLAAD found over 140 incidents of anti-LGBTQ protests and threats targeting drag events, including events run by the organization Drag Story Hour. SAG-AFTRA on Thursday came to the defense of Alec Baldwin , who i s facing involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust . The guild said that the charges against him are “wrong and uninformed,” and that it is the responsibility of the employer, not performers, to ensure safety on the set. “​The death of Halyna Hutchins is a tragedy, and all the more so because of its preventable nature. It is not a failure of duty or a criminal act on the part of any performer,” the guild said in a statement today that did not mention Baldwin by name. “The prosecutor’s contention that an actor has a duty to ensure the functional and mechanical operation of a firearm on a production set is wrong and uninformed. TMZ broke the story ... Jeezy and 5 others on his tour bus were arrested last August right before an Orange County concert. Cops found an AK-47 and a Glock on the bus and charged all 6 with felony possession of an illegal weapon. Cops were on the hunt for a weapon that was used in a Northern California murder during a Wiz Khalifa concert a few days earlier ... a concert where Jeezy was the co-headliner. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the Orange County D.A. made the motion to dismiss the charges. The judge agreed. A redacted Washoe County Sheriff’s Office report on the New Year’s Day snowplow accident in Nevada that severely injured actor Jeremy Renner is providing previously unknown details of the incident. The report, obtained by CNN , indicates that Renner was driving a “Pistenbully snow groomer” to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow. At one point, the actor exited the parked tractor when the vehicle began to slide sideways. BBC News’ journalists failure to understand “basic economics” is bringing a “high risk to impartiality,” according to a BBC-commissioned report. The finding was contained in the first BBC impartiality review, of which several more will be published over the coming months. Since taking on the role in September 2020, BBC Director General Tim Davie has prioritized overcoming issues with impartiality at a time when the corporation is under the government spotlight. Today’s Review of the impartiality of BBC coverage of taxation, public spending, government borrowing and debt judged BBC News innocent of displaying deliberate political bias but highlighted several pitfalls. Responding, the BBC Board said Davie and his team will address the issues presented in the review with a proposed action plan.
