On Thursday night, CBS News host Gayle King weighed in on the controversy surrounding NBC’s outgoing Today host Megyn Kelly. Earlier this week, Megyn Kelly made comments about wearing blackface on Halloween that sparked fierce backlash and recent reports suggests that she is currently negotiating an exit deal with NBC, which King assessed is “not looking good” for the Fox News alum. Stephen Colbert then asked the CBS This Morning host about what she thought about Kelly’s remarks and her apology. “Listen, I have blackface 24/7 so it is never an issue for me,” King responded. “I thought Andy Lack, who runs NBC, summed it up very nicely when he said it was a very unfortunate thing.” King told the Late Show host that she and Megyn Kelly had “bonded” at the Kentucky Derby two years ago and that she likes her. “I think she’s a very smart cookie, very smart at what she does, but I think she clearly stepped in … [Read more...] about Gayle King: I’m Surprised a ‘Smart Cookie’ Like Megyn Kelly Would ‘Make a Mistake of That Kind’

Omarosa Manigault Newman appeared on CBS Morning to promote her controversial new tell-all book Unhinged, which paints a most unflattering portrait of President Donald Trump. The topic du jour is Omarosa’s allegation that Trump had used the “n-word” multiple times while on the set of the reality show The Apprentice where the two first met roughly a decade and a half ago. Amid the back and forth between President Trump and Omarosa there have been alleged rumors of an illicit romantic relationship. At least according to CBS Morning co-host Gayle King who challenged the former Senior Presidential Adviser in the Trump White House. Omarosa stridently rebuked the notion that there was any personal romance between the two, instead calling theirs a “symbiotic relationship” in which the reality show host and self-proclaimed billionaire was her mentor. She continued to claim that the unsubstantiated rumor of affairs was a standard play to explain … [Read more...] about Gayle King Challenges Omarosa About Rumors of Romantic Relationship With Trump
Gayle King is the co-anchor of CBS This Morning and an editor at large at Oprah’s magazine. She also has some thoughts on the #MeToo movement and Roseanne Barr’s firing that are sure to stir some controversy. In an interview with Audie Cornish of The New York Times, King called for more due process when accusations of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct are made. “I think when a woman makes an accusation, the man instantly gets the death penalty. There has to be some sort of due process here,” she said. “All of these inappropriate behaviors are not all the same.” Then, repeatedly referring back to the case of her friend Charlie Rose, she also said that she thinks that in some cases, firing is too harsh of a punishment for the crime. In the case of Roseanne Barr, however, King thought it was entirely appropriate for Barr not only to be fired but the entire show canceled. “I was doing the hula in my office when I saw the … [Read more...] about Gayle King Calls for Due Process in #MeToo Claims: ‘Behaviors are Not all the Same’
The royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was grand in many ways, but perhaps the most striking aspect was the myriad collisions of American and British culture. The wedding was an unprecedented mix of royal pomp, British tradition, African American culture and Hollywood celebrity. Britain’s longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, named a TV star the Duchess of Sussex before the native Angeleno was wed by the archbishop of Canterbury in a ceremony that opened with the soft serenade of a string section and ended with a gospel choir’s rousing rendition of “Stand by Me.”In between was the animated sermon of Bishop Michael Bruce Curry, the first African American to serve as presiding bishop of the Episcopal church. He took a solemn royal ritual dating back to the Anglo-Saxons and infused it with the new world.Pressed and groomed wedding guests such as Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and others related to the crown by marriage, blood or circumstance … [Read more...] about A royal wedding TV spectacle where the new world met the old and showed a rethinking of the monarchy
On Tuesday night, Gayle King weighed in on the controversy that has plagued the White House regarding a leaked joke at the expense of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). Last week, White House aide Kelly Sadler had dismissed McCain’s dissent of Gina Haspel, President Trump‘s nominee to become the next CIA Director, by saying his vote doesn’t matter since he’s “dying anyway.” Neither Sadler nor the White House have yet to apologize for the remark. Appearing on The Daily Show, the CBS This Morning host briefly shared her thoughts after Trevor Noah blasted the White House for it earlier in the show. “Don’t you think, Trevor, that if they finally come out and apologize now, will it still mean something when I have to beat you up to give me an apology?” King asked. “Does that really- does that feel good to you if I have to embarrass you to apologize for something?” Noah responded by saying many people want the White House to … [Read more...] about Gayle King: Would a WH Apology Over McCain Remark Mean Anything ‘If I Had To Beat You Up’ For It?
