Bert Fields Talks Disney Ban, George Lucas, James Cameron, Harvey Weinstein, Napoleon & The Next Big Thing
EXCLUSIVE: It might not be too much of a stretch to say that Bert Fields has played a role in almost every great Hollywood legal battle of the last 30 years. The Cardinal Richelieu of Tinseltown attorneys, Fields counts among his accomplishments successfully taking on Disney and Michael Eisner to the tune of a $250 million payout for Jeffrey Katzenberg back in the late 1990s. He repped Star Wars creator George Lucas in negotiations with the House of Mouse as well. The Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger partner has also represented Tom Cruise, the Weinsteins, James Cameron , Warren Beatty against Paramount over Reds , the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Godfather author Mario Puzo and his estate and other heavyweights, including studios like Universal. Jay Leno Blasts Bill Cosby, Praises Larry Wilmore At NATPE – Video
Jay Leno is a big fan of Larry Wilmore’s new late-night show and the role Comedy Central is playing in bringing “unfiltered news” to TV. “Terrific,” is how Leno described Wilmore’s The Nightly Show today during an onstage interview with Tom Papa at this year’s National Association of Television Program Executives confab in Miami. “Wilmore brings a different perspective,” Leno said, calling it something sorely missing from late-night TV. “We need to see more women, more African Americans,” added the longtime host of NBC’s Tonight Show . That aside, Leno called it a good time for female comics. Back in his early days, when Phyllis Diller was active, she was a “great joke writer and an attractive woman” who had to make herself look ugly to perform because female comics needed to have a “gag.” Asked what he thought of the Bill Cosby controversy, Leno took the same position as had Wilmore had at the top of his show’s second episode , telecast hours earlier: “I don’t know why … [Read more...] about Jay Leno Blasts Bill Cosby, Praises Larry Wilmore At NATPE – Video

Armando Iannucci is staying in business with HBO and is teaming up with Sam Mendes for the ride. The Veep and Avenue 5 creator and the Oscar-winning director have scored a pilot order for comedy The Franchise at the premium cable network. Emmy-Nominated ‘The Andy Warhol Diaries’ Paints New Portrait Of The Artist As Gay Man: “In The Diaries His Lust Is Very Palpable”
In the mid-1970s Andy Warhol began keeping a diary–of sorts. It started out as a dry accounting of expenses–a tube of paint here, a quart of milk there—dictated to his collaborator Pat Hackett. But over time the entries shifted from the strictly mundane to something deeper and more personal. “I’ve got these desperate feelings,” he noted in a 1981 entry, for instance, “that nothing means anything.” Andy Warhol’s diaries were published posthumously in 1989, Hackett having edited the raw 20,000 pages to a more manageable, if not inconsiderable, 807. But it was not until this year that The Andy Warhol Diaries were transformed into a documentary series for Netflix , and an acclaimed one at that. It has earned four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series and individual recognition for Andrew Rossi for writing and directing the series. “The diaries when they were published were seen as scandalous because of all of the gossip,” Rossi … [Read more...] about Emmy-Nominated ‘The Andy Warhol Diaries’ Paints New Portrait Of The Artist As Gay Man: “In The Diaries His Lust Is Very Palpable”
