Disney Sued Over ‘Toy Story 4’ Duke Caboom Resemblance to Evel Knievel

September 22, 2020 by www.tmz.com

Getty/Disney If the "Toy Story 4" character Duke Caboom reminded you of Evel Knievel , you're not alone -- the folks in charge of his image and likeness thought so too ... and now they're suing. A company called K&K Promotions just filed suit against Disney, Pixar and whole a bunch of their subsidiaries ... claiming the stuntman driver toy that Keanu Reeves voiced in the latest 'Toy Story' flick is a clear and obvious rip-off of the legendary American motorcycle daredevil. More importantly, K&K claims they own all the rights to Evel Knievel's likeness, persona, and brand and says the Mouse House did NOT get any type of approval to base one of their characters after Evel. If you've seen the movie ... this one's easy to spot as far as the similarities go -- and it would appear critics and other junket interviewers thought so too, according to the lawsuit. Per the docs, obtained by TMZ, K&K say that Evel's style, influence … [Read more...] about Disney Sued Over ‘Toy Story 4’ Duke Caboom Resemblance to Evel Knievel

Sandra Bullock Attached To Play Filibustering Texas Pol Wendy Davis In ‘Let Her Speak’

November 9, 2017 by deadline.com

EXCLUSIVE : The hot project du jour is Let Her Speak , a Mario Correa script that just got Sandra Bullock attached, subject to landing a director she likes. Bullock will play Democratic Texas State Sen. Wendy Davis , who on June 25, 2013, hit the national spotlight when, against extraordinary odds, she singlehandedly staged a 13-hour filibuster. Her stamina not only thwarted GOP leaders’ plans to enact one of the country’s most restrictive anti-choice laws, but resulted in the most far-reaching Supreme Court victory for reproductive rights in a generation. Let Her Speak covers that historic day and how a onetime teen mom who became a Harvard-trained lawyer showed the courage to change her own life, along with the lives of American women. The film is being produced by Todd Black , Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists, Jonathan Shukat for ShowKat Productions, and Bullock. They will quickly secure a director and lock in the distributor. … [Read more...] about Sandra Bullock Attached To Play Filibustering Texas Pol Wendy Davis In ‘Let Her Speak’

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Trolls Cowboys’ Brett Maher Over Kicking Woes

January 23, 2023 by www.tmz.com

Getty Brett Maher can't catch a break ... even the governor of Texas jumped in to pile on the Dallas Cowboys kicker after he missed yet another PAT on Sunday night. Greg Abbott 's trolling came just minutes after Maher had his second quarter point after attempt blocked in Dallas' playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers. I swear, I can kick as good as the Dallas Cowboys kicker. — Greg Abbott (@GregAbbott_TX) January 23, 2023 @GregAbbott_TX "I swear," Abbott tweeted. "I can kick as good as the Dallas Cowboys kicker." Of course, Abbott is paralyzed from the waist down ... after he sustained significant injuries when an oak tree fell on him during a morning jog in 1984. Getty The missed PAT was Maher's fifth in his last two games -- remember, the 33-year-old whiffed on four extra point attempts against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Cowboys' Wild Card Round win. To his credit, Maher did come back to make two field goals … [Read more...] about Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Trolls Cowboys’ Brett Maher Over Kicking Woes

Ts Madison Says Beyonce’s Dubai Show Was for Fans, Defends Her as LGBTQ Ally

January 23, 2023 by www.tmz.com

TMZ.com Beyonce 's weekend concert ruffled a few feathers in the LGBTQ+ community, but Ts Madison doesn't see anything wrong with her getting a fat check in Dubai ... because, first and foremost, she says Bey is loyal to her fans. The actress and activist joined us Monday on "TMZ Live," dismissing claims Queen Bey "sold out" by performing in the UAE -- where there are firm anti-LGBTQ+ laws. Gallery Launch Gallery Getty Madison believes most people, even those criticizing Beyonce, would jump at a $24 million payday in Dubai. In fact, she says many people in the LGBTQ+ community already do travel there ... whether it be for work or vacay. So, the whole sellout label seems hypocritical to her. And, Madison points out Beyonce's been an ally for years ... and doesn't think she'd do something like this to hurt the very group to which she dedicated her latest album, "Renaissance." As we reported, Beyonce made it a truly grand opening for a … [Read more...] about Ts Madison Says Beyonce’s Dubai Show Was for Fans, Defends Her as LGBTQ Ally

In a pay-per-view jump-off with British motorcycle stuntman Eddie Kidd, the duo jumped for distance in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. C’mon Voters: The Oscars Could Use A Little Sequel-itis

January 16, 2023 by deadline.com

For at least some of you 10,000 or so Academy Awards voters, it’s not too late. You’ve still got 33 hours to have some fun with your Oscar ballot, to shake up the race and to put some awesome new stats in the record books. And it’s easy. All you have to do is follow the lead of your brethren at the Producers Guild of America (to which a lot of you belong anyway), and nominate not one, not two, but four blockbuster sequels for the Best Picture prize. How delicious would it be to see the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences follow the PGA by handing nominations to that multibillion-dollar quartet Avatar: The Way of Water , Top Gun: Maverick , Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (yes, a streamer)? Overnight, the awards contest would be transformed, from a chess game among pinched sophisticates moving important little pictures around the board to an all-out slugfest among heavyweights with big studio backing and a … [Read more...] about C’mon Voters: The Oscars Could Use A Little Sequel-itis

January 16, 2023 by deadline.com

With the lively, fun and star-packed Critics Choice Awards on Sunday night at the Fairmont Century Plaza ballroom (and accompanying viewing party upstairs that elegantly handled the 300 members and guests who lost the organization’s ticket lottery and couldn’t get a seat) now history, there is really nothing between it and the January 24 announcement of Oscar nominations. With the nationally televised show airing 48 hours before Oscar balloting closes (Tuesday at 5 p.m. PT) though, its influence could be strong, especially for moving speeches from the likes of Brendan Fraser ; an impressive sweep of top categories Best Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Supporting Actor (Ke Huy Quan becoming the runaway train of acting winners thus far this season) for Everything Everywhere All At Once ; and among other memorable moments, the great Guillermo del Toro looking to continue sweeping up every animated trophy in sight.
