When Claire Boucher, 27, who writes, records, and produces music as Grimes, decided to show off her unshaved armpits in a recent round of press photos, her PR team went into crisis mode. This was not the image they had in mind; they wanted her quirky but groomed, wild but not too wild, more feminine than feral. Boucher saw it another way. “I was like, armpit hair! Yes!” she says, sitting cross-legged on a couch in the Los Angeles headquarters of her record label, 4AD. She is wearing an oversized black T-shirt bearing the name of Ronda Rousey and fresh white sneakers, with her long hair, brown at the roots and magenta below, twisted into two braids. She looks like Wednesday Addams headed to a rave. “Everyone else on my team was like, no way, no armpit hair, absolutely not,” she says. “So in the end we sent the shots to Big Jay.”Big Jay is Jay Z, who signed Boucher to his RocNation management company in 2013, shortly after her 2012 album, Visions, made … [Read more...] about Grimes: The Triumph of a Self-Made Oddball

Global action star Tom Cruise is currently on a worldwide promotional tour for The Mummy, which hits theaters June 9. During a stop at an Australian TV morning show, the actor confirmed that Top Gun 2 is finally happening. The last we heard about this sequel was way back in January 2016, when producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared a photo of him and Tom Cruise on social media, teasing that he was discussing Top Gun 2 with Tom Cruise, but there haven't been any concrete updates since then. When asked about the possibility of Top Gun 2 happening, Tom Cruise had this to say. "Yes, it's true. You know what, I'm going to start filming it, probably next year. I know, it's happening. After it revamped its tax credit program in 2015 to include additional incentives, the state has seen a rise in filming outside Los Angeles: "This is a boom time." Ever since California revamped its tax credit program in 2015 to include additional incentives, the state has seen a rise in filming outside Los Angeles. In turn, productions in the program have spent more than $130 million across 19 counties outside the city. Studio projects that do so are eligible for an additional 5 percent back, not to mention the supplemental local incentives offered by cities and counties. "We're now reaping the benefits of the tax credit coming in, and across the state we are seeing so much more production work, including large films like Captain Marvel, Birds of Prey, Ford v Ferrari and a lot of other films that may have been lured away before the expansion of the state program," says Orange County film commissioner and California on Location Awards co-chair Janice Arrington. "All of us around the … [Read more...] about California’s Tax Credit Luring Hollywood Shoots Outside L.A.
Nearly five years after Niall Horan first performed on Saturday Night Live alongside One Direction, the singer returned to the series as a solo artist, serving as musical guest for the Scarlett Johansson-hosted episode. For his first set, Horan blistered through the lead single of his upcoming debut studio album “Nice To Meet Ya” in a Miami Vice-inspired suit. Horan delivered a confidently charming performance of the Brit-pop track with a backdrop of neon blue lights. Later in the show, the musician returned to Studio 8H in all black for a more subdued performance of his heartfelt ballad “Put a Little Love on Me,” accompanied by a piano and a violin. Horan also appeared in the sketch “Hot Tub Christmas,” where he played a cigarette smoking, sideburn-sporting ghost named “Big Jim” alongside Johansson and Cecily Strong, who played the ghosts of dead strippers. Together, they haunt a hot tub singing a bizarrely catchy song recalling how a … [Read more...] about Watch Niall Horan’s Electric Performance of ‘Nice To Meet Ya’ on ‘SNL’
