The Television Academy has named the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media as the 2022 Governors Award recipient for their efforts in promoting gender equality in the entertainment industry. “Since 2004, the institute has been fighting for equality and representation, long before it was comfortable to take that stand. The Television Academy is honored to add the organization to the prestigious list of recipients,” said Governors Award selection committee co-Chair Kim Taylor-Coleman. “The institute’s work continues to result in real-world changes that have an impact far beyond the soundstages and locations we show up at every day,” added committee co-Chair Michael Spiller. The Governors Award recognizes an individual, company, or organization that makes profound contributions to the arts and/or science of television. The Institute founded in 2004 by actor Geena Davis is an organization that believes the representation of characters in media should reflect the real … [Read more...] about Geena Davis Institute On Gender In Media To Be Honored By The Television Academy With 2022 Governors Award

Brittney Griner’s Defense Team Appeals Russian Drug Smuggling Verdict Sentencing WNBA Player to 9 Years in Prison
Brittney Griner ’s defense team has filed an appeal against the verdict that has sentenced the WNBA player to nine years in prison after she was f ound guilty of smuggling illegal narcotics into Russia , Griner’s lawyer Maria Blagovolina told CNN . In addition to the nine-year sentence, Griner was also fined $16,400. The sentencing and fine were handed down in a decision issued by Khimki city court Judge Anna Sotnikova on Aug. 4. While the judge maintains that the court took Griner’s partial admission of guilt into consideration, as well as her remorse and charitable actions, the U.S. State Department maintains that she is being wrongfully detained. “Today’s conviction and sentencing by a Russian court of U.S. citizen Brittney Griner to nine years in prison further compounds the injustice of her wrongful detention,” Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken shared in a press statement at the time. “This step puts a spotlight on our significant concerns with Russia’s legal system … [Read more...] about Brittney Griner’s Defense Team Appeals Russian Drug Smuggling Verdict Sentencing WNBA Player to 9 Years in Prison
Watch Rage Against the Machine Play ‘Fistful of Steel’ for the First Time Since 1997
Rage Against the Machine wrapped up the 2022 leg of their Public Service Announcement reunion tour with a five-night stand at New York’s Madison Square Garden that concluded Sunday. At the second-to-last show on Friday night, they broke out “Fistful of Steel” for the first time since 1997. Check out the fan-shot video right here. The song is a deep cut from their 1993 self-titled LP. They played nearly every song from the album at some point on the tour except for “Settle For Nothing,” which they haven’t touched since 1993. The vast majority of the songs in the set throughout the tour came from the band’s three proper studio albums, but they did play Bruce Springsteen’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad” from their covers collection Renegades, “No Shelter” from the Godzilla soundtrack, and Run the Jewels’ “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck).” The band originally planned on heading to Europe later this month, but they canceled those shows to give frontman Zach de la Rocha more time … [Read more...] about Watch Rage Against the Machine Play ‘Fistful of Steel’ for the First Time Since 1997

Will Guy Ritchie Pull Sword From Stone After All And Make King Arthur Movie At Warner Bros?
EXCLUSIVE : After numerous attempts by Warner Bros to make a new version of the King Arthur legend, I’m hearing that Guy Ritchie is again looking to make the movie. This one is a tentpole fantasy retelling of the Arthur legend, meant to span six films. It was created by Joby Harold , who wrote the script for the first film. Producing is Akiva Goldsman through Weed Road, Harold and Tory Tunnell through Safehouse Pictures, and Ritchie’s partner Lionel Wigram. Ritchie and Wigram previously developed a version of the King Arthur saga based on a script by Trainspotting scribe John Hodge, but it lost steam when it looked like the one by David Dobkin was going to happen. Warner Bros got closest to a production start with Dobkin’s Arthur & Lancelot , with Colin Farrell most recently at the center of talks to revive the project as Lancelot, and they chased Gary Oldman for the Merlin role. Warner Bros paid $2 million to acquire Dobkin’s script, but unplugged … [Read more...] about Will Guy Ritchie Pull Sword From Stone After All And Make King Arthur Movie At Warner Bros?
Warner Bros Reconsidering ‘Arthur & Lancelot,’ With Colin Farrell In Lead Role
BREAKING : Warner Bros, which late last year put the brakes on David Dobkin ’s Arthur & Lancelot , is once again in active talks to make the movie. I’m hearing that Colin Farrell is in the center of talks that aim to revive the project. The killer role in the movie is Lancelot, I’m told, and that’s the one that Farrell is eye-ing. I’ve also heard that Gary Oldman, who was offered the role of Merlin but didn’t take it, is likely to be re-approached. They haven’t figured out who’s pulling the sword from the stone and are looking for an Arthur. You might recall that the studio, which paid $2 million to acquire Dobkin’s script last summer, wouldn’t make the movie because its $130 million budget was $20 million more than Warner Bros was willing to spend. Under terms of the deal, Dobkin got to shop his project around to other studios but nothing happened. Where Farrell fits into the picture isn’t exactly clear. Warner Bros, which dated the film for a March 15, 2013 … [Read more...] about Warner Bros Reconsidering ‘Arthur & Lancelot,’ With Colin Farrell In Lead Role

RS Recommends: The Best Bookshelf Speakers Under $100 for Music, Movies, and Gaming
If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. If you’re setting up a stereo system in a small room, or don’t want big, daunting audio equipment in a common space, your best bet is to get a set of bookshelf speakers. Because of their size, bookshelf speakers can be used in a variety of situations. You could put a pair on a desk and use them as computer speakers, mount them onto a wall (indoor or outdoor) to save room, or integrate them into a 5.1 surround sound system. Bookshelf speakers work well in all of those scenarios, and they’re small enough that you can move them around easily if you want to change their position. Many also feature multiple inputs, which allows you to use them with many devices (think turntable and TV) at the same time. You can spend thousands of dollars on bookshelf speakers but it’s possible to get great sound from a pair that costs under $100. If … [Read more...] about RS Recommends: The Best Bookshelf Speakers Under $100 for Music, Movies, and Gaming
GOP Senate Campaign Arm Is Pulling Ads in Three Key Races
The National Republican Senatorial Committee is canceling $10 million worth of fall advertising reservations in Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — three states at the center of the GOP’s push to regain control of Congress. The New York Times , which reported the news on Monday , notes Republicans have been struggling to raise money as of late , as well as that the decision to pull ads for some of its top candidates could be tied to the party’s financial troubles. The NRSC has cut the most money, $5 million, in Pennsylvania, where quack TV doctor Mehmet Oz is taking on Lt. Governor John Fetterman. Oz’s campaign has been fraught, to say the least, and current polling averages currently have him losing to the Democrat by more than 10 percentage points. Oz narrowly edged out David McCormick in the state’s Republican primary behind the strength of former President Donald Trump’s endorsement. Members of the Republican establishment, and even Trump’s circle, had lined up to back … [Read more...] about GOP Senate Campaign Arm Is Pulling Ads in Three Key Races
