EXCLUSIVE: Annabella Sciorra ( The Sopranos ) has joined the cast of the Paramount+ series Tulsa King from executive producers Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter, who also serves as writer and showrunner. She will play Joanne, Dwight’s ( Sylvester Stallone ) younger sister who lives in Brooklyn. Sciorra and Stallone previously co-starred in the James Mangold film Cop Land released in 1997. Tulsa King follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Stallone) after he is released from prison after 25 years and is unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Okla. The Television Academy has named the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media as the 2022 Governors Award recipient for their efforts in promoting gender equality in the entertainment industry. “Since 2004, the institute has been fighting for equality and representation, long before it was comfortable to take that stand. EXCLUSIVE: Warner Animation Group EVP Allison Abbate , who is a 20-year-plus vet of the studio, and has worked on several marquee animation films including their original Space Jam, the billion-dollar plus Lego titles franchise and this summer’s hit, DC League of Super-Pets, is exiting. Abbate will be segueing to a number of filmmaking opportunities she has in the mix. Coalition Of 1,425 Showrunners & Directors Raises $2.5M To Help Women Gain Access To Abortions While Calling On Studios To Step Up
A coalition of 1,425 showrunners and directors has raised $2.5 million to help women gain access to abortion services in states where they’re now illegal. Organizers of Hollywood4AbortionAccess hope to raise another $2.5 million to help women across the country – not just those working in the entertainment industry. The money will go to the National Network of Abortion Funds. Organizers are also calling on the major studios to adopt plans to “guarantee that all employees and other production workers in need of emergency reproductive healthcare can be transported expeditiously across state lines” if they live in states where abortions are now illegal in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade . One of the biggest challenges for Saturday Night Live on a weekly basis is managing expectations when it comes to the show’s hosts. If a Josh Hutcherson or LeBron James episode turns out to be not-half-bad, we’re all pleasantly surprised and relieved since the bar wasn’t that high. But when a reliable comic dynamo shows up — Justin Timberlake, Alec Baldwin, Melissa McCarthy — hopes get raised to potentially unrealistic proportions, possibly resulting in a perfectly OK episode that ends up feeling disappointing because we expected more.
