Pro Skier Kyle Smaine Killed In Avalanche, Dead At 31
Getty Professional skier Kyle Smaine -- who won gold at the 2015 Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships -- has died in a terrible ski accident, his family announced. He was 31. Smaine was in Japan skiing ... a place he enjoyed frequenting this time of year due to the "unbelievable snow quality," something he talked about on social media before the accident. Smaine was on the trip with photographer Grant Gunderson , who recounted the frightening events in an emotional Instagram post , calling it his "absolute worst nightmare scenario." Getty Grant says he was tired so he decided to go down the mountain and rest. But, Kyle wanted to keep skiing. BBC News Review Says Journalists’ “Lack Of Understanding Of Basic Economics” Brings “High Risk To Impartiality”
BBC News’ journalists failure to understand “basic economics” is bringing a “high risk to impartiality,” according to a BBC-commissioned report. The finding was contained in the first BBC impartiality review, of which several more will be published over the coming months. Since taking on the role in September 2020, BBC Director General Tim Davie has prioritized overcoming issues with impartiality at a time when the corporation is under the government spotlight. Today’s Review of the impartiality of BBC coverage of taxation, public spending, government borrowing and debt judged BBC News innocent of displaying deliberate political bias but highlighted several pitfalls. Responding, the BBC Board said Davie and his team will address the issues presented in the review with a proposed action plan. Eva Green Says ‘A Patriot’ Could Have Killed Her Career During Court Battle With Movie’s Producers
James Bond star Eva Green has said she feared making A Patriot could have killed her career as she took the stand in a legal battle with White Lantern Films, producer of the doomed British movie. Green, whose credits include 2006’s Casino Royale and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City , is suing White Lantern and SMC Speciality Finance for $1 million, the fee she says she is owed due to the collapse of the project in 2019. Green was due to star in and executive produce the pic. Speaking at the High Court in London, Green said the script for A Patriot was one of the best she had read, and she “really fell in love” with the story, Reuters news agency reported. “It was very exciting, a role of a soldier, which I have never played before. Those joining the WGA West in blasting the WBD on Monday include Claudia Forestieri, creator and executive producer of Gordita Chronicles ; Lisa Hanawalt, creator and executive producer of Tuca & Bertie ; and Moisés Zamora, creator and executive producer of Whistleblower , a project in development at HBO Max. Marilyn Manson Sued By Woman Who Claims Singer Sexually Assaulted Her When She Was A Minor
Marilyn Manson is facing a lawsuit filed by a woman who claims that the singer sexually assaulted her in 1995, when she was 16, and later when she was an adult. The lawsuit, filed in New York Supreme Court on Monday (read it here ), comes a week after a settlement was reached in a lawsuit brought by Game of Thrones actress Esmé Bianco, who had filed suit claiming that Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, sexually assaulted her. The New York lawsuit was filed by a Jane Doe, which her attorneys wrote that they used to protect the woman’s privacy as a victim of sexual assault . Three years after surviving a fiery plane crash in South Carolina, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker says he's almost done repairing some of his tattoos that were burned off during the wreck. Barker was outside Zulu Tattoo in L.A. yesterday ... when he told us, "Where I got burned ... I started finishing some of the tattoos that got burned off." As TMZ reported, Barker and DJ AM were the only two survivors of the 2008 plane crash -- when a private jet they were on blew a tire while taking off, lost control and crashed into an embankment.
