NBC Sports said Thursday that Maria Taylor will be the new host of Football Night in America , NBC’s weekly studio show that leads into the network’s Sunday Night Football . Taylor, who joined NBC from ESPN less than a year ago, had been a co-host of the Sunday primetime program alongside Mike Tirico, who is joining the SNF booth this upcoming season alongside Cris Collinsworth. He replaces Al Michaels, who exited after the end of this past season and is moving to Amazon to call its nascent slate of Thursday night NFL games alongside Kirk Herbstreit. In addition to the FNA role, Taylor executive producing an eight-part documentary series on the history of the Black quarterback in the NFL. It eventually will stream on Peacock. Sky has unveiled one of its biggest factual slates yet, greenlighting six shows including documentaries on the assassination of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme and the Italian 1990 football World Cup, and a royal factual drama told through the eyes of Queen Victoria’s granddaughters. Former Australia cricketer Andrew Symonds passed away in a car crash on Saturday night. The two-time World Cup winner met with a road accident just outside of Townsville in his home state of Queensland. The 46-year-old was the sole passenger, police confirmed. The police statement said, “Early information indicates, shortly after 11 pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.” It must be noted that Symonds is the third former Australian cricketer to tragically pass away in 2022 after leg-spinner Shane Warne died from a heart attack in Thailand in March and former wicketkeeper Rod Marsh also passed away from a heart attack earlier this year.
