Getty Matthew McConaughey and some friendly pooches have touched down in Uvalde, TX -- but their presence alone won't fix what's become a major scandal on the slow police response. The actor is back in his hometown, where he's meeting with families and children affected by the massacre on Tuesday ... when 21 people were slaughtered by a crazed gunman, including 19 children who were wiped out in a classroom he'd barricaded himself in. This week was a solemn reminder that evil exists in the world, but we will never let it break us. We’ll unite to be an even more powerful reminder that love never fails & together we can change things. #UvaldeUnited pic.twitter.com/2LwZPbuVNX — Tony Gonzales (@TonyGonzales4TX) May 27, 2022 @TonyGonzales4TX Looks like he's with U.S. Congressman Tony Gonzalez -- representing Texas' 23rd district, encompassing Uvalde -- who posted some pics of their time together and thanked MMC. Shortly after the news broke, … [Read more...] about McConaughey & Uvalde Comfort Dogs Not Enough to Quell Outrage at Police

Exclusive Book Excerpt: ‘Love Goes To Buildings On Fire: Five Years in New York that Changed Music Forever’
‘Love Goes To Buildings On Fire: Five Years in New York that Changed Music Forever,’ by Rolling Stone contributor Will Hermes and available today, chronicles the period between 1973-1978 during which punk, hip-hop, salsa and other revolutionary forms of popular music were born or reinvented. In this exclusive excerpt, Hermes tells the stories of three era-defining musical beginnings: the collaboration of punk pioneers Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell, the early days of the New York Dolls and the legacy of jazz legend Sonny Rollins. Tom Miller was tripping his balls off on LSD in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. The next thing he knew, a week later, he was in New York City, crashing in a crappy East Village apartment with his old friend Richard Meyers. They were both 19 years old. They’d met at Sanford, a boarding school for ne’er-do-wells and other types near Wilmington. Meyers was raised in Lexington, Kentucky, a town shadowed by the Lexington Narcotics Farm rehab facility, … [Read more...] about Exclusive Book Excerpt: ‘Love Goes To Buildings On Fire: Five Years in New York that Changed Music Forever’
‘The Conjuring’ Haunted House That Inspired The Horror Film Franchise Has Been Sold
As a young woman noted at the beginning of The Conjuring , “It scares us just thinking about it.” She was talking about the elements that went into the film. But that statement also applies to the real estate price wars that are driving housing toward the sky throughout the country. In Rhode Island, that means that the early 19th century house that inspired the horror film (but wasn’t shot there) fetched a price 27% above asking, selling recently for $1.52 million. For the uninitiated, the 2013 horror film The Conjuring is a fictionalized account of the Perron family and their work with paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The house has a history of murder, rape and suicide. Apparently that’s not enough to dissuade buyers in this over-heated market: the property’s listing says it’s rumored to be haunted by the spirit of Bathsheba Sherman, who resided there in the 19th century. The 3,109-square-foot house is located at 1677 Round Top Road in … [Read more...] about ‘The Conjuring’ Haunted House That Inspired The Horror Film Franchise Has Been Sold
Cannes Film Festival: Ruben Ostlund Wins Second Palme D’Or With ‘Triangle Of Sadness’ – Full List
UPDATE, Refresh for latest …: Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostlund led one of his now trademark primal screams inside the Palais tonight as his latest film, Triangle Of Sadness , was crowned with the Cannes Film Festival ’s Palme d’Or. This is the second time Ostlund has won the prestigious prize, following 2017’s The Square . Ostlund tonight joined an elite group of filmmakers who have taken two Palmes, including the Dardenne brothers who were awarded a special 75th anniversary prize this evening for their Tori And Lokita . Contrary to the wild and wacky closing ceremony of last year’s Cannes Film Festival, tonight’s event was a very straightforward affair. Triangle Of Sadness was acquired by Neon for North America earlier this week. In Deadline’s review , Stephanie Bunbury called it “a mission statement about equality: that it doesn’t exist, that it cannot exist, that while calamity may bring the downfall of the top dogs, new curs will replace them and … [Read more...] about Cannes Film Festival: Ruben Ostlund Wins Second Palme D’Or With ‘Triangle Of Sadness’ – Full List

As Monaco Grand Prix Revs Up, Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali Talks U.S. Expansion And TV Future
Formula 1 is back on familiar turf this weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix, a glamour-wrapped race that has been a fixture since 1929. While many of the track contours and Côte d’Azur vistas are little changed, the auto racing circuit itself has a decidedly revamped look. Earlier this month, it made a splashy debut in Miami, the latest stop in its U.S. expansion, which will take it to Las Vegas next year. That bow followed the arrival of the latest season of Netflix docu hit Drive to Survive , with the show adding pop-culture luster to negotiations for a potentially lucrative new U.S. media deal. “The American market is ready for F1,” Formula One Group CEO Stefano Domenicali told Deadline in an interview ahead of today’s race. “Being ready means that we need to keep working on the fact that we need to stay connected with our fans in the U.S. We need to speak the same language, we need to give context.” The Miami event provided the latest template, as celebrity … [Read more...] about As Monaco Grand Prix Revs Up, Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali Talks U.S. Expansion And TV Future
Netflix CEO Again Defends Chappelle Over Trans Jokes, Gervais Now Too

The streamer's CEO, Ted Sarandos , tripled down in his defense with the NYT , saying that he views the airing of such specials -- such as DC's 'The Closer' or Gervais' new "SuperNature" -- as freedom of expression ... a value he thinks is lost in American society.
