Airing later this year, Netflix’s as-yet-untitled doc will examine one of the biggest days in English football history through the eyes of those who were there via user-generated content, archive and interviews. Spike Lee To Receive BFI Fellowship
Spike Lee is to receive a BFI Fellowship, the highest honor bestowed by the UK’s lead organization for film. The award will be presented to filmmaker Lee at an event at BFI Southbank, hosted by BFI Chair Tim Richards and BFI Chief Exec Ben Roberts, with an on stage Q&A with Spike Lee accompanied by a screening of Summer of Sam , on 13 February 2023. While in the UK, Lee will visit teams at the BFI National Archive, who have liaised with the director on a new 35mm print of Malcolm X (1992), to premiere at the BFI’s inaugural Film on Film Festival taking place at BFI Southbank in June. He will also take a masterclass with young filmmakers. Born in Atlanta in 1957 but raised in Brooklyn, New York City, Lee received his MFA in Film Production at NYU/Tisch. The team was visiting the White House on Tuesday for a celebration of their 2022 NBA championship. NBCUniversal Expects $2.5B In Peacock Revenue, Break-Even By 2024
Executives at NBCUniversal and Comcast took the stage at Studio 8H at Rockefeller Center on Thursday and offered their first financial projections for streaming service Peacock during an investor presentation. Four years after it launches, first to some Comcast subscribers in April and then nationally by July, the service will be bringing in $2.5 billion in revenue and breaking even. There will be 30 million to 35 million “active users” by that point, the company said. “We are creating the equivalent of a 21 st century broadcast business, delivered on the internet,” NBCU chairman Steve Burke said. Former NBCUniversal exec Heather Olander is on the verge of joining the broadcaster to oversee its unscripted programming, Deadline understands. It comes after Deadline revealed that the Nexstar-owned company was in the hunt for an alternative chief to work alongside recently appointed President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz. Olander, who could start as soon as next month, will have an interesting job on her hands as the network is set to increase the amount of unscripted content it airs as it looks to program more cost-effectively. Deadline understands that unscripted could make up more than 50% of its schedule going forward under its new owners.
