EXCLUSIVE : The Euro 2020 Final, which featured a dramatic England penalty defeat to Italy and chaos as thousands of un-ticketed fans attempted to storm Wembley Stadium, is to be charted in a Netflix feature documentary from My Daughter’s Killer producer Rogan Productions . Airing later this year, Netflix’s as-yet-untitled doc will examine one of the biggest days in English football history through the eyes of those who were there via user-generated content, archive and interviews. The game was England’s first major football final since winning the World Cup in 1966 and took place on home turf, with the majority of the delayed tournament played in the UK. And while on the pitch a dramatic match ended in a heartbreaking penalty defeat to Italy, there was plenty of drama off it. Thousands of people without tickets tried to storm the national 90,000-seater stadium and more than 2,000 gained access to Wembley without tickets, according to a review carried out … [Read more...] about Netflix Greenlights Feature Documentary On Dramatic Euro 2020 Wembley Final Between England & Italy

SXSW Second Wave Includes UAR’s ‘Bottoms’, Donald Glover’s ‘Swarm’ Series, Michelle Yeoh’s ‘American Born Chinese’ & More
South by Southwest on Wednesday revealed the second half of its lineup for this year’s edition, set for March 10-19. This includes Visions, the Global section presented by Mubi, 24 Beats, and Festival Favorites plus numerous additions to the Headliners, TV Premieres, Narrative and Documentary Spotlight and other sections. New on the sked is Janine Nabers and Donald Glover ’s Amazon Studios series Swarm and Lee Sung Jin’s Beef , respectively the opening- and closing-night TV premieres. They join the previously announced opening-night world premiere of Paramount’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves . This year’s closing-night film will be announced closer to the event. In addition, there is another movie to be announced for the fest’s Monday, March 13 slot. Given the Oscars on March 12 (note the festival sets their dates five years in advance), I understand that evening’s lineup will ease a bit with amped-up feature premiere wattage placed Monday night. … [Read more...] about SXSW Second Wave Includes UAR’s ‘Bottoms’, Donald Glover’s ‘Swarm’ Series, Michelle Yeoh’s ‘American Born Chinese’ & More
Nickelodeon Animation Studios Recognizes Animation Guild As Bargaining Rep For Its Production Workers
Nickelodeon Animation Studios has agreed to voluntarily recognize The Animation Guild , IATSE Local 839, as the bargaining representative for its production workers. Last month, a majority of the 177 production workers there voted to unionize and to seek voluntary recognition. The guild and the studio now will meet at the bargaining table to negotiate a contract. Those covered by a new deal will include production managers, production coordinators, post-production assistants and asset production coordinators. The guild already has a collective bargaining agreement with Nickelodeon that covers more than 400 artists, including CG technicians, storyboard artists, character designers and writers. No dates have been set yet for negotiations, and the guild’s Negotiations Committee now will expand to include representatives from the production bargaining unit. “I am glad that we were able to reach an agreement where Nickelodeon Animation Studios recognized both the … [Read more...] about Nickelodeon Animation Studios Recognizes Animation Guild As Bargaining Rep For Its Production Workers
‘Shotgun Wedding’ Review: Jennifer Lopez Hits The Altar Again But This Time With Real Fireworks
Jennifer Lopez has been married a few times, both in life and in the movies — most recently twice last year with her real life wedding(s) to Ben Affleck, and on screen in her delightful Valentine’s Day-timed comedy Marry Me. Both made me happy for her, but her latest, Shotgun Wedding , is something altogether different, a frenetic action comedy that never puts on the brakes. It is a wild ride no doubt, but it isn’t the kind of wedding to which I need to be invited any time soon. So the plot is pretty predictable, especially if you have seen a whole range of movies from Romancing the Stone to last spring’s The Lost City, manic films that pair a male and female star caught in treacherous circumstances and lets them argue and snap at each other for the better part of two hours as they face an onslaught of death-defying antics and stunts. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum really made the format work big time last year in Lost City and helped bring adult audiences back to … [Read more...] about ‘Shotgun Wedding’ Review: Jennifer Lopez Hits The Altar Again But This Time With Real Fireworks
Oscars: Deadline’s Pete Hammond Predicts All The Winners
Editors’ Note: This story was originally published Wednesday. OK, here’s the moment you have been waiting for. Or maybe not. My Oscars predictions. Although many of these categories are Sure Things (I will tell you which ones by noting them as we go along), a remarkable number of them are still up in the air, and I find myself torn between two contenders, sometimes even three. This is a remarkably fluid year for the Oscars, and it begins with a Best Picture race that is a nail-biter right down to the opening of the envelope. I have to confess I am not a big fan of the prediction game, unlike some other pundits who seem to live or die by this stuff. I am much more interested in writing about the behind-the-scenes machinations and the work itself rather than the mundane what’s up/what’s down/what’s gonna win/what should win. As this week progresses, the white noise of which names will be in those envelopes increases. That said, I know some of you will take this ballot and bet … [Read more...] about Oscars: Deadline’s Pete Hammond Predicts All The Winners
