‘Stranger Things’ Season Four Finale: Runnin’ Up That Hill for Two-Plus Hours Isn’t So Fun

July 1, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

This post contains full spoilers for the final two episodes of Stranger Things Season Four, which are streaming now on Netflix. Midway through the super-supersized Stranger Things fourth-season finale, “The Piggyback,” Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Steve (Joe Keery), and Robin (Maya Hawke) are climbing a haunted house’s stairway in the Upside Down as part of a complicated plan to keep the hell dimension from breaking through into their own world. They have avoided attention so far, but suddenly Robin wakes up the demonic tentacles that surround them, and within moments, all three teens are pinned to the walls, having the life choked out of them. The scene cuts to another set of characters, leaving the viewer on edge about how (or if, but not really) Nancy and the others will escape what looks like certain doom. A few scenes later, the season’s main villain, Vecna/One/Henry/Mother of Dragons/Breaker of Chains/Cleaner of Carpets (played under at least some of those names by … [Read more...] about ‘Stranger Things’ Season Four Finale: Runnin’ Up That Hill for Two-Plus Hours Isn’t So Fun

Oscar Voter Warning: Friday Is Firm And Final Deadline To Request Paper Ballot

January 31, 2013 by deadline.com

OK, Academy members, this is your last chance to switch from online voting to a paper ballot or simply  even request a paper ballot to vote in the finals for the 2012 Oscars . Balloting begins February 8th and runs to 5 PM PT on February 19th, but if you find yourself frustrated by what some members feel is a too-complex online voting experience during nominations, you only have until tomorrow, February 1, to switch to paper by calling 1-800 251-0185 or emailing the membership department at [email protected] . The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences seems to be doing everything it can to avoid some of the problems members had with online voting for noms, mostly just by just trying repeatedly to inform members they do have the option of paper but must make that request by tomorrow. A follow-up to last week’s email informing voters of their options was sent to members by President Hawk Koch earlier this afternoon. It was simply to inform them of tomorrow’s … [Read more...] about Oscar Voter Warning: Friday Is Firm And Final Deadline To Request Paper Ballot

The Supreme Court Isn’t Done Carrying Water for Right-Wing Activists

July 1, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

Law is supposed to be an objective discipline. We praise the “rule of law” as an immutable hallmark of the American legal system, and take solace in the ideal that justice should be dispensed fairly and evenly regardless of who is dispensing it. Our judges wear black robes because they are meant to be indistinguishable. It theoretically shouldn’t matter which one hears a case because the law, not the individual, determines the outcome. But here’s the spoiler: This is all hogwash. At least when it comes to the Supreme Court , who the judge is matters immensely, while what the law is matters very little. In fact, as the cases decided in the past few weeks make clear, the current justices are going to take almost every chance they get to issue the most politically conservative decision possible. Let’s review what the court has done just in the past week or so. First, last Thursday, it gutted one of the key protections from the Miranda rights everyone knows (“You have the right … [Read more...] about The Supreme Court Isn’t Done Carrying Water for Right-Wing Activists

‘Stranger Things’ Volume 2 SPOILERS: Who Died & Who’s Left To Fight Evil In Hawkins

July 1, 2022 by deadline.com

SPOILER ALERT: This story contains details of Season 4, Volume 2 of Netflix ’s Stranger Things . The penultimate season of Netflix’s addictive Duffer joint has come to a spectacular conclusion but certainly left fans with several burning questions — namely, if one of those absurdly brave Brat Packers (and the positively mad doctor who created this whole mess to begin with) will make it to the fifth and final season. For now, it seems Max (a terrific Sadie Sink ) has survived her terrifying encounter with Vecna, thanks to the miraculous intervention of Eleven ( Millie Bobby Brown ) in the Upside Down. But that doesn’t mean Max is up and strutting to the sounds of Kate Bush ; the last we see her is in a coma, with no promise from optimistic doctors that Young Red will pull through. Let’s face it: Eleven may have the strength to crash-land a helicopter in the desert, but bringing back someone from the dead is a whole different bailiwick. Whether Dr. Brenner ( … [Read more...] about ‘Stranger Things’ Volume 2 SPOILERS: Who Died & Who’s Left To Fight Evil In Hawkins
