Cannes Review: Saeed Roustaee’s ‘Leila’s Brothers’
They all hate one another, Leila (the magnificent Taraneh Alidoosti) tells her brother Alireza (Navid Mohammad Zadeh) when he returns to the family home. It is a rare visit; he works in an industrial plant somewhere on the other side of Iran. He isn’t going to tell his family that he has been laid off with the promise of pay that has never materialized; in the Tehran family that crowds Saeed Roustaee ’s long and absorbing clan drama Leila’s Brothers , he is supposed to be the properly functioning son. What can you say about the other three brothers in this Cannes competition film? There is Manouchehr (Payman Maadi) who, as they all like to say, thinks with his pectorals. Parvis (Farhad Aslani) is very fat and a heavy drinker; they all expect him to die any day, though he does seem to keep fathering children successfully. Farhad (Mohammad Ali Mohammadi) is a shyster who could barely lie straight in bed, which might have something to do with why his wife is divorcing him, taking … [Read more...] about Cannes Review: Saeed Roustaee’s ‘Leila’s Brothers’
Herschel Walker’s Response to the Uvalde Shooting Was Incoherent. So Is His Senate Bid
“What I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” This is how Hershel Walker responded on Tuesday night when asked about gun control in the wake of a shooter killing 21 people, including 19 children, at an Uvalde, Texas, elementary school hours earlier. Asked if he believes there should be new gun laws in the wake of the Texas shooting, Georgia Senate GOP nominee Herschel Walker told me in ATL: “What I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” He didn’t engage further. pic.twitter.com/wpsAZ7yKP5 — Manu Raju (@mkraju) May 25, 2022 The hollow incoherence on display here is sadly typical of the man Georgia’s Republican voters just deemed worthy of representing them in the Congress. Walker is best known for his Heisman Award-winning turn at the University of Georgia, followed by a relatively lackluster career in the NFL. He hasn’t done much since that would indicate he’d be a capable public servant. He has, however, pledged his allegiance to Trump and … [Read more...] about Herschel Walker’s Response to the Uvalde Shooting Was Incoherent. So Is His Senate Bid
Seven Ideal Locations to Build Your Culture-Based Business
Opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not reflect the views of Rolling Stone editors or publishers. While many businesses are moving online, there are many others that thrive by being location-based. Those in the culture space especially — businesses centered around media, food, music, fashion, art and more — can benefit from planting roots in a particular environment or local hot spot, whether it’s to plug in to the existing culture or to gain a certain customer base. Below, the members of Rolling Stone Culture Council discuss where they would get their start if they were opening new culture-based businesses today and why they recommend others consider these ideal locations too. Near a College Campus Place your business around a college campus. Students need to eat, meet and create outside of the classroom in a fun, safe environment. Imagine your space there and that it can morph almost instantly by moving walls and adjusting levels of sound, lighting and … [Read more...] about Seven Ideal Locations to Build Your Culture-Based Business
The Future of Music Videos: Ganser Tap the Potential of Immersive LED Tech
If you’d taken a wrong turn on the expansive-looking film set for Chicago post-punk group Ganser ’s latest music videos, you might have accidentally crashed into a wall. That’s because rather than shoot outside or use a green-screen background, the band tried out an LED Volume backdrop — essentially an array of high-resolution screens that can respond realistically to camera movement, similar to a video game. It’s the same technology Disney+ uses for The Mandalorian . “When you think about the cost of building out a full set versus just being able to render one with this LED backdrop, it will have a benefit for people who couldn’t afford that,” says co-lead vocalist Nadia Garofalo, who works in the film industry. Alicia Gaines, the band’s bassist and other lead vocalist, was impressed by how the Volume setup enabled virtual-production supervisor Andy Jarosz to create a dynamic environment for the shoot: “Andy was adding in trees and changing lighting on the fly.” She adds, “I … [Read more...] about The Future of Music Videos: Ganser Tap the Potential of Immersive LED Tech
Meet the OnlyFans Creator Who Said She Slept With Instagram Employees to Get Her Account Back
It’s fairly common for adult-content creators on social media to get kicked off various platforms, even if they’re not doing anything that violates terms of service. It’s so common, in fact, that there’s a thriving black market of third-party vendors who are willing to get influencers’ accounts back for a fee. One enterprising creator, however, says she found a far more effective way to get her Instagram account back after it was removed: By having sex with a Meta employee. And then, when her account was removed again, she found another employee, and did it again. Kitty Lixo , an OnlyFans model, podcast host, and adult-content creator who had more than 150,000 followers before her account was recently removed by Instagram for a fourth time, recently went viral for an interview she gave on the podcast No Jumper . When asked by host Adam22 what the sluttiest thing she ever did was, Kitty recounted sleeping with a Meta employee (someone she already knew) to successfully … [Read more...] about Meet the OnlyFans Creator Who Said She Slept With Instagram Employees to Get Her Account Back
‘Kevin Can Wait’ & ‘The Good Place’ Off To Solid Ratings Start As TV Season Begins
Snapshot, updated with final numbers: New series premieres: Kevin Can Wait (2.6 in 18-49), The Good Place (2.6 at 10 PM, 2.0 at 10:30 PM, preview); Returning series premieres all down, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory (3.8, -19%, 15.8 million) tops night. With little fanfare, the broadcast networks are kicking off another season, bracing for another decline in Live+Same Day linear ratings, projected to be around -6%, in line with the year-to-year slippage last fall. The declines were steeper for TV’s biggest comedy, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, which is showing its age, opening its 10th season — last under the current deal with CBS — with a 3.6 adults 18-49 rating and 15.4 million viewers in the fast nationals. That is down 23% in the demo and 15% in viewers from the Season 9 opener and the lowest 18-49 premiere number since the comedy’s sophomore season. Still, indicating how much broadcast Live+SD ratings have eroded since then, Big Bang, whose L+SD result will likely be … [Read more...] about ‘Kevin Can Wait’ & ‘The Good Place’ Off To Solid Ratings Start As TV Season Begins

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. Your home might appear to be clean, but looks can be deceiving. In fact, your home is probably dirtier than you think. From taking care of pet fur to cleaning up dust, having a vacuum cleaner for deep cleaning is an essential item to keep around the house. But not all vacuum cleaners are designed equally, and just any old vacuum cleaner won’t do if you’re looking to give your living space the deep clean it routinely needs. Here’s what you need to know to find the best vac. How Often Should You Be Vacuuming? It’s generally recommended that you vacuum at least once a week, though you may need to vacuum more often if you have pets or have carpet flooring or rugs throughout your home. Skin, dust, and other particles can get lodged into the carpet, and the more time that passes the harder it is to thoroughly clean. The accumulation of … [Read more...] about RS Recommends: The Most Powerful Vacuums to Clean Any Mess
One of Marilyn Manson’s Abuse Lawsuits Dismissed Over Statute of Limitations
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by Marilyn Manson ’s former assistant over the statute of limitations, which expired after two years from the alleged crimes. Ashley Walter’s initial suit against the vocalist, whose real name is Brian Warner, alleged sexual assault, sexual battery, sexual harassment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, among other claims. She had initially named Warner’s label, Marilyn Manson Records, Inc., as a co-defendant. Warner has denied all claims of sexual abuse. “The plaintiff has pleaded too few facts and too late to keep this case in court,” Judge Michael Stern said, according to CBS News . Regarding the statute of limitations, he wrote: “Reading the first amended complaint as a whole, [Walters] pleads that [she] was aware of the actions against her by the time she left her employment. Thus, nine to 10 years passed until the filing of the action, far beyond the two-year limitations periods of her claims.” … [Read more...] about One of Marilyn Manson’s Abuse Lawsuits Dismissed Over Statute of Limitations
Tate McRae on Imposter Syndrome and the Morality of TikTok
If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. “Sometimes singing scares the hell out of me.” Tate McRae is down to keep pushing her limits and challenging herself, and teaming up with Sony was just the first step. McRae is celebrating the release of the new LinkBuds S and WH-1000XM5 headphones with Sony Electronics, who recently hosted an exclusive, in-flight listening session for her upcoming album , I Used to Think I Could Fly. The new audio lineup might just give the AirPod Max a run for their money, which promises more spatial, immersive sound quality, and updated processors that take a swing at enhancing the already industry-standard noise-cancellation. And McRae would know — she’s had them on since coming back from hitting the road on her world tour. Buy: Sony LinkBuds S at $198.00 But it wasn’t always like this.
