Will director J.J. Abrams pull a little time travel magic in Star Wars 9 to fix some of the perceived flaws in The Last Jedi? It's possible, now that time travel has entered the official Star Wars canon thanks to the latest episodes of Star Wars Rebels that aired this past week. There has to be something more to it than what we've seen thus far. Will it be used in the next big screen sequel? Or perhaps one of the two new trilogies coming from director Rian Johnson and the Game of Thrones guys? It appears the sky may be the limit. With The Last Jedi heading to its inevitable home on VOD and Blu-ray, many fans are still mad about what the movie did to the franchise. So much so, that during its initial theatrical run (which hasn't lasted as long as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle or The Greatest Showman), a petition was launched to scrub The Last Jedi from the official canon. Now, with Time Travel an official part of Star Wars lore, including all upcoming movies, TV shows, and books, some … [Read more...] about Will J.J. The one question on everyone's mind heading into Star Wars 9 is what will happen to Leia. She is the last of the human legacy characters to survive. And she was supposed to be a main character moving forward. But Carrie Fisher's passing in 2016 meant that The Last Jedi would mark her final appearance in the franchise. Disney and Lucasfilm have made it clear that no actress will replace her, nor will the character be resurrected using CGI. Now that Leia has ridden off into the sunset of a brighter tomorrow, with the spark of the Rebellion ignited, how will the next sequel go about introducing her departure? There are new clues in the upcoming book adaptation of The Last Jedi that hint not all is well with General Leia. And one of that film's most controversial scenes will actually be responsible for the funeral scene we're likely to see in the opening moments of the next movie. Star Wars 9 director J.J. Abrams has revealed that the movie's script is complete, and that filming will begin at the end of July. This is certainly exciting considering the shuffling behind-the-scenes that has taken place over the last several months. Colin Trevorrow was attached to direct and had been working on the final movie in the trilogy when he was let go from the project late last year. It was then revealed that Abrams would be returning once more to finish off the new trilogy after starting it in 2015 with The Force Awakens. In a new interview, J.J. Abrams praised Star Wars 9 co-writer Chris Terrio, even going as far as to call him a "genius." It was previously thought that production for the new Star Wars movie would begin in June, but Abrams confirmed that it will begin at the end of July instead. Though the script is complete, it will more than likely go through some rewrites before the end of July. In the meantime, there's still a lot of preproduction work to be … [Read more...] about Star Wars 9 Script Is Finished, Shooting Begins This July
J.J. Abrams confirms Star Wars: Episode IX has a script in place and the project begins filming at the end of July. This is a big development for the sequel trilogy finale, which saw a massive upheaval last year after original director Colin Trevorrow left due to creative differences. Abrams, returning to finish what he started with The Force Awakens, teamed up with Chris Terrio for what was the fourth pass at an Episode IX screenplay. Fortunately, things have been going very smoothly since Abrams and Terrio took over, and now Lucasfilm can focus on moving to the production phase. After Abrams came onboard, Episode IX was delayed to December 2019, a move that also pushed back the filming schedule. A summer start date has long been reported, with June the presumed window. As it turns out, Abrams will begin rolling the cameras a little later than that. Star Wars 9 starts shooting in July.
